I saw it at a THX theatre and the bass in the first 5 minutes during the attack was insane.

This IS a two disc special edition in HD
With TWO discs, surely they can fit just the movie by itself on one disc with TrueHD 7.1 and then put the extras on the 2nd disc!

I can see it now already. It's a trick! First they come out with DD Plus 5.1. Then they will come out with TrueHD 5.1. Then they will release the Ultimate Edition with 7.1 TrueHD!

I'll be checking it out tommorrow on regular DVD, I can't wait!!! I heard it has some awesome bass.
I think the bass will leave a HUGE smile on everyone's face!
I can't wait either!

But my favorite will probably be Pan's Labyrinth's 7.1 DTS-HD MA coming out in December. Just the DTS track on the SD DVD was phenominal. Hopefully I will have gotten my hands on a DTS-MA BD player by then.

Yes, of course. Us suckers will go for three releases:D
But, I was hoping for just a plain jane 1 disc with great audio. My boombox is already sad for not getting the best:D

By the time Transformers "Ultimate Battle" edition or whatever is released, it will also be on Blu-ray with lossless 24-bit/48kHz PCM or TrueHD.

Paramount had PCM spec'd for a number of their upcoming Blu-ray releases before they pulled out.

There are over three times as many BD releases with lossless audio, which is why that's the only format I support.

Well it looks like they'll have this glitch fixed, Star Trek will be released in HD DVD featuring True HD come November 20th.

HD DVD Sucks

This is the reason why I believe the Blu Ray format will win in the end because as technology becomes more advanced with the new HD sound formats coming out HD DVD just wont be able to keep up even if they update their discs Blu Ray wont just sit idle I have heard of 500GB discs in research right now. Even if they were able to fit in the new HD audio formats in their discs I am sure they would be compromising the video just to get everything into one disc.

Multilayer discs exist now (10 layers? 150G), but what I read was that it is the players that can't handle them so media isn't the issue. I believe that physical media will ultimately go away so the discs will not be the limitation.

Well, I just got my copy of the Transformers HDDVD at Best Buy for $27.99 (price match from Target.com).
The sound was excellent. The bass was great. But I still think Blu-ray sounds better than HDDVD.

I think Underworld PCM, Underworld Evolution PCM, & 300 PCM/TrueHD sound better than Transformers DD-Plus.

They all sound great, though.

What are you talking about? How would you compare audio among different movies???????

That is not what he said at all, he said Blu-Ray sound is better (period).

Garcia, I am curious, since you say you agree that BD sound quality is better, do you even have HD DVD player?

I knew someone was going to ask that.
Of course, you can't actually compare the sounds of different movies.
I'm just saying that I LIKE the OVERALL sound of certain movies better.
They all sound great, but sometimes don't you get the IMPRESSION that some movies are more impressive to you than others even though you really can't compare them?

Yeah, so far that is my impression. I have about 30 HDDVD movies vs 40 BD movies. Although I can't truly fairly compare them, I just get the impression that all the BD movies sound BETTER then the HDDVD movies SOMEHOW!

Maybe it's all in my head. Placebo effect. It is subjective, although I try to be as objective as I can. I have both players. But if a movie comes out in both formats, I will pick BD 100% of the time. Maybe the surround sound decoders in my Panasonic DMP-BD10A player is better than my Toshiba HD-XA1 player. Maybe it's just placebo effect.

Oh no worries from me Acuguy, I was just showing Garcia what you said exactly (before it got twisted).

Personally, I would have to disagree, and yes I have some of the same movies on both formats (although, I don't bother with a useless DBT).

Taken from another site I frequent, here is the list I currently have.

40 Year Old Virgin (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
Superman (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)

Notting Hill (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
The Departed (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)

Blu Ray movies (own)
Night at the Museum (good movie, great transfer, a lot of 3-d looking scenes, color is good, for such a new movie I did expect more)(recommended)
The Patriot (Excellent movie, the added 10+ minutes works well with the story, superb tranfer but not 100% perfect. Natural colors most of the time, more comments @ post #8))(highly recommended)
Stargate (Great movie, very strong transfer (meaning good) with a tad of grain in dark areas)(recommended, but not as reference quality)
The Fifth Element (Remastered) (Very good movie, SUPERB transfer, the most consistent (and natural) skin tones 98% of the time, a little oversharpened in areas, and a tad of grain in some light and dark scenes)(HIGHLY recommended as reference PQ)
Ultraviolet (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
Fantastic Four (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
Terminator 2 - Judgment Day (not previewed yet, except I did watch the THX trailer, Strange that this is the only THX disc available ATM)
50 First Dates (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
Dirty Dancing (20th Anniversary Edition) (I did a a/b comparison to my SD version, and as far as colors the SD BLOWS the Blu-Ray away, BD is sharper and has more contrast but the colors are so bad I will not ever watch it again)(highly NOT recommended)
Sleepy Hollow (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
Mission Impossible (Special Collector's Edition) (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
Mission Impossible 3 (quickly viewed, will watch in full later, so far GREAT transfer)(recommended at this point)
X-Men 3 The Last Stand (quickly viewed, will watch in full later, so far EXCELLENT transfer, could be one of the best, does seem a tad oversharpened)(recommended at this point)
G.I. Jane (not previewed yet)
Black Hawk Down (not previewed yet)
The Haunted Mansion (not previewed yet)
The Terminator (EXCELLENT movie, pure classic, transfer at first 5 minutes make you think 'oh, another grainy movie transfer', but this is not the case. After the first 5 min. then the movie is so good of a transfer, that it looks like a new movie)(A must have in a collection)
The Devil Wears Prada (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
The Guardian (will do a second viewing and a compare to SD)
Underworld: Evolution (not previewed yet)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse Black Pearl (see rented BDs)

The Last Samurai (Excellent movie, transfer was great, will buy) (bought on HD DVD)(highly recommended)(the HD DVD seemed better quality???)
Wild Hogs (so-so movie some very funny parts, the transfer was about 100% perfect, certainly the best I have seen on Blu Ray (more comments post #8)(recommended)
Rocky (Great movie, good transfer, transfer could have been better for such a popular classic, however this is much better than SD DVD)(will buy)(recommended)
Pirates of the Caribbean CoBP (Good movie, Fantastic transfer very clean, sharp, vibrant. (will buy)(a must have, for the superb quality)
Chain Reaction (good movie, I really felt as though the transfer was dull in to many places, other reviewers like the transfer, maybe I will watch it again)(recommended movie, but not 4 PQ)

Damn, Gasman.
You have more movies than Wal-Mart & Target combined!:D

So you were SUPPER IMPRESSED with "Transformers" HDDVD?

I thought the surround sound in Transformers was CONSTANT---like 100% of the time. I love the sound they make when they TRANSFORM!

I will have to buy it AGAIN when they release it in TrueHD or PCM, hopefully in Blu-Ray.:D

I just know that "Pan's Labyrinth" will be phenomenal in 7.1 DTS-HD MA!

You pre-ordered that one yet?
