Have my TV hooked up via an optical output cable to my Yamaha. No sound when I turned it on this morning. I have searched here and elsewhere for hours to no avail

Here's what I have done to try and figure out the issue:
1. tried 2 other optical cables and can see the light coming out of the end of all of them (including the original) - nothing. Plugged these cables into the other optical inputs for CD, DVR - nothing. Conclusion, its not the optical output from the tv or the cables
2. Yamaha plays music through my speakers when hooked up via AUX input. Conclusion, sound output still works
3. Sound plays through tv speakers. Conclusion, its not a signal issue from my cable or firestick

So, I figured there is an issue with the optical inputs somewhere in the receiver. Is this the logical conclusion or am I missing something?

Solutions:
1. reset Yamaha to factory. Have read that this may solve the problem. But the factory reset procedure I have seen (press Direct and power on) does not work and I cant find any alternate reset procedures (tried unplugging) so am at a loss now

Any suggestions pls? Other than the reset procedure (which I cant get to work) the only alternative is to take it to a pro to fix (is it even worth it?) or get an new receiver

Thanks for any help/ideas

That is an old prologic receiver, that must be around 20 years old. It is not worth repair and parts are likely not available.

We are now in the era of HDMI and I suspect your whole system needs updating.
