ps: Regarding Tri-Trix sound - I noticed you placed the speakers pretty close to back wall, I don't think is ideal placement - try to put them further away from rear wall - at least one feet or even better - two feet..

Other part is adjusting stuffing could bring better results

I think you should get close to 40hz f3 on these - not full range of-course

Ah yes, I see now what you're saying. My apologies that I would think such a thing, it really just goes to show you how big of a idiot I am. Im a visual person and if I dont have pictures then my mind is left to wonder. :D

I had the same concern with the nut flange thinggy and ended up just cutting a corner out of it. If the magnets are a respectiable size, it seems easy to interfere.
Was totally joking about the offense. Nothing but respect for your opinion!

Here's where the tritrix lost me a bit. I realize w/ the right sub this would be eliminated, only posting this so I could get a bit of help w/ picking my next full range speaker (if a design is even available w/out doing a bi-amplified speaker, or I think the correct term is a digital active crossover design). If you listen to this song, the speakers loose the bass quite a bit in the first 0-23 seconds of the song. Oddly, they produce better bass from 24-31 seconds; which is lower bass. Bare in mind that I might be completely insane and this "full range" speaker may not even exist. I'm probably looking for the same bass I get out of 2 JL 12W3 subs that were in my car and I may not get it w/out getting super crazy in a speaker design.

:D :D I wanna build a Nao Note knockoff, except with a RAAL and Accuton

Another option might be the statements, though height does get tall. Obv OP was impressed by Curt's voicing, and the statements do have two 8" woofers handling the bass.

They look interesting... I dunno how they sound, but they only have one 8" (nice) woofer so I'd still want subs ;) - the statements OTOH use two ;)

I mean a good setup will have multiple subs regardless, because of how speakers couple to rooms in the bass, you don't want only one source of bass producing bass from an abritrary location in the room.

Another option to consider might be Dennis Murphy's MBOW1 3-way:

http://murphyblaster.com/content.php?f=MBOW1_3-WAY.html

That should be deadly. I believe he's done a version with a less expensive GR Research tweeter.

Is there a link to the statements where I can find a cost list? I'm trying to stay under about $650ish for just the components (not including any of the cabinet wood or hardware). I think the beasties may be a bit too bulky. I think the cabs were almost 5' high if I read that right. That last set you posted, the MBOW1, looks like it would do the job excellently. Just curious about the cost for that one as well. I think w/ a xover cavity in the bottom, I could get the finished outer dimensions of the cabinet around 12"w x 17 1/2"d x about 44"h. A bit bulky but I'd bet they would work well in my pool table room.

Not to totaly go back to square one but, if you've ever heard the tritrix I built, they're fairly loud w/ minimal distortion (impressively loud actually) but they lack good bass and definition. Just looking to overcome those things. I'm also not a bass freak; I think an 8" might get me where I want to be. I've heard 8" subs that played really well in the right environment and even heard plenty of towers w/ dual 6 1/2" that I was impressed w/. I actually have a Klipshe 10" pwrd sub on my home theater and the bass from that can be overpowering if it's not turned down quite a bit. Just looking for something more than what I have, KWIM? I assumed the dual 5 1/4"s wouldn't produce super duper bass anyhow so I'm not disappointed, just ready to move on :)

While I realize this is probably alot like explaining astro physics to a monkey for you, but I really appreciate all the help and insight! In time i hope to understand alot better the charts and also how to read what speakers are capable of and also what crossover components are needed to acheive that goal. I may be able to bump my cost a bit. Is there a build thread anywhere for these? I'd google or search but I'm stuck w/ cell for the weekend. Out camping w/ the wife n kids (one last season ender hoorah!).

You should find Jinjuku's Statements build thread right here on the first page.

There's a ton on HTGuide and a few at Home Theater Shack as well ;T

So I've been reading thru jinjuku's build thread on these and I'm definitely interested; probably enough to pull the trigger so there might be another statements build thread ;)! I love jinjuku's description of how they sound, kind of what sold me on em!

I do have 2 major questions first, knowing that I'm not overly familiar w/ crossovers aside from building the simple ones in the tritrix, is someone willing to bear w/ me thru this before I spend $800 on the components? Also, these aren't active xovers are they? I just don't want to find out I need to spend an additonal $1000 on amps (probably more actually) after I get the speakers built!

I doubt you'll regret that decision. :D

You should have no problem getting help around here with your crossovers. Heck, even I can help on that one. That should be the least of your concerns.

They are not active xovers.

Another question, the receiver I got to drive these is a Pioneer SX-950. Info's on this link: http://classicreceivers.com/pioneer-sx-950

Will this be enough to drive these or should I start to search for something better? I just got this only because I love the way they look and really wanted to compare the audio output of the classic receivers to that of digital ones; and to try to sum up the argument, "they don't make em like they used to"! It wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to unload it, I'm sure I could get my money back. If this will work I love the looks of it though!! These statements will be strictly for music, no HT.

I guess the simple question is, what's the power handling for the statements? I read through Curt's site on them and didn't see anything. What would the optimum power input be?

Based on the drivers used, I expect sensitivity to be around 91-92db, although I don't know for sure.
Here is the Z-chart:

phase stays within 30 deg, and they only dip around 4 ohms at the lowest

Any amp capable of around 150w into a 4 ohm load, is probably happy with these speakers.

With that said, watts are cheap, and my recommended amp would be this:

:D

Now regarding the Pioneer, it is rated 85w into 8 ohm and weighs about 55lbs so i'd expect it to be 4 ohm stable. I think that'll be perfectly fine with the statements. Just make sure to defeat any tone controls that a vintage receiver like that might have.

So I was really struggling between the statements and the ER18's. I'm pretty sure the statements sound better, just not sure if I can handle their girth! When I showed my cousin a pic of these (not to offend anyone here), he asked me if I was bringing back the 80's and wondered when I was going to start growing my mullet (again , admit it, you had one too ;)).

My dad's been extremely interested in the whole build your own, DIY speakers since I've gotten involved and I think I've found a simple solution to my problem; build em both! My dad's definitely got the room in his rec room for the statements, and I like the looks (and according to skyline, the sound) of the ER18's; plus they'll fit in my pool table area quite well. Time to order up, can't wait for this to come to fruition!!!

Glad to hear about your experience with the Tritrix. And now your going to build both the Statements and the ER18s. Yeah, I'd say you're hooked . There are more than a few of us who would like to know your impressions of these two speakers.

Have you checked the prices of the drivers lately? There have been some big price increases.
