This monthes Home Thater Magazine reviewed Sherwood's NewCastle R972 receiver with the new Trinnov audio correction. It looks very interesting and promising.

The link to Trinnov Optimizer.

Unfortunately the Home Theater review of teh NewCastle isn't available online yet but from what I read in the magaiziine, it looks favourable.

It's been a long time coming for this product. Hopefully it will work well and we'll start seeing it in other products that don't take half a decade to come to market.

Its going to have to battle Audessy in this market segment.

It will be tough since Audyssey has a pretty big head start, but I'm always a fan of more choices. I could see Yamaha as a potential adopter since their YPAO doesn't seem to be overly popular.

This looks exciting.

I have used the Audyssey in a car environment. The differance in no processing and processing is incredible.

So, would this unit plug in between a Receivers outputs and the amplifier?

Wonder what this will come to market at. Makes me realize how much I have to learn about acoustics.

The Sherwood receiver is already readily available, although it has had some initial firmware problems.

Outlaw is going to use it in their new Pre-Pro, if it ever comes to fruition.

In the one they were working with Sherwood to build or their latest "coming attraction?" I thought they cancelled the one based on the Sherwood 972.

Both, in the one they dropped and in the new one that they supposedly have or had or is in the works. One thing I do know and that is if they don't have this thing out later this year I am getting the Onkyo/Integra pre-pro.

Read about it here.

This is supposedly the preliminary front panel design.

There is no unit to plug in from my impression of teh Sherwood receiver review in HT. Its like Audessy, firmware built into the receiver.

External room audio equalizers are readily available which implement the various proprietary room equalization algorithms.

They tend to provide more functionality but cost more than the average AVR which implements those functions. They have to be connected in between a pre/pro's analog outputs and the inputs of amplifiers for each of the audio channels. Some people dislike the idea of introducing an additional analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion in each channel.

It's good to see they are planning on HDMI 1.4, as that was the very first thing I wondered about, now that it has been this long. This unit is on my short list for future processor. Integra too I guess.

On one hand, I'd like to have Audyssey Dynamic Volume, Dynamic EQ, and DSX.

OTOH, it's nice to have Outlaw's solid reputation in hand, with a seemingly excellent warranty, and of course some semblance of affordability.

Audyssey supplies at least a couple of target curves, though otherwise inflexible. I wonder if there is more than one target curve with Trinnov. I'm pretty sure Trinnov can be disabled above 300hz, as the guesstimation of the Schroeder transition frequency of the typical room. ARC-1 I believe is even more flexible with HF cutoff. However, I was under the impression that most ARC users were leaving the HF cutoff higher than initially anticipated, anyhow.
