Australia exports circa US$1.23 B in pharmaceuticals to the USA.

It will be tough for those Australian manufacturers - but even tougher for people in the USA dependent on some of these drugs, who will now find themselves having to pay the 200% tariff.

About 40% of Australian exported pharmaceuticals go to the USA... but I guess that will change dramatically now.

A new link between the cities has been needed for decades. The existing Ambassador Bridge is nearly a century old, so you can imagine the increase in traffic volumes over that span of time. However, the Maroun family, who operate the Ambassador Bridge and collect the tolls, have opposed a new bridge for many years - for obvious reasons. They staged a long term legal and political campaign to prevent its construction. Finally, in order to get it underway, the Canadian government agreed to foot the entire bill, using Canadian and American materials and labour. The agreement between Canada and the State of Michigan states that the bridge would be jointly owned and that Canada would collect all toll revenue until the cost of construction was recovered, after which toll revenue would be split.

Trump spoke highly of the bridge’s value to the US in his first term. A 2017 joint statement with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the Gordie Howe bridge “a vital economic link between the two countries.”

Now, Trump says he will block the bridges opening, for...well....made up reasons.

The billionaire owner of a bridge connecting Michigan with Canada met Howard Lutnick, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, on Monday hours before President Trump lambasted a competing span, in the latest flashpoint in the deteriorating relationship between the United States and Canada.

Matthew Moroun is a Detroit-based trucking magnate whose family has operated the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, for decades. He met on Monday with Mr. Lutnick in Washington, according to two officials briefed on the meeting who requested anonymity to discuss a private conversation.

After that meeting Mr. Lutnick spoke with Mr. Trump by phone about the matter, the officials said.

I saw that last night. However Trump will be made to cave on that. Polls are massively against Trump on all fronts. All of the house, and 60% of Senators are up for reelection in November. That is already starting to change the focus and this reality will build by the day. Trump is massively under water in all the polls. As I have said for years now, Trump is demented. His diagnosis is frontal temporal dementia, and it is now progressing at an alarming rate.
