Agree. Democracy works with an informed citizenry. It is unfortunate when some gullible people believe politicians who say the govt shouldn't expropriate your hard earned money. In a democracy the govt. is us we elected them!
One of my favorite sayings is we get the government we deserve.

While I understand the Trump hatred, the whole country isn't in favor of the tariffs- if the US engaged in the trade practices used by China, it might be warranted in light of the involvement of the government in corporate ownership, but I don't like blaming small companies and making them suffer for something implemented or threatened by the government. I would hate to see Canadian companies suffer due to pinheaded anger and resentment over anything.
Given the scale of the economies, Canadians view this as a David vs Goliath scenario. The only way to have any meaningful impact is to try and affect as many sectors as possible and hope that voters complain to local representatives. Most of the anger currently seems to be about social security and medicaid, though, since access has been curtailed and wait times have increased to hours and sometimes days.

We already had a local supplier shut down due to the tariffs. They were suppliers for the VW battery plant being built near St Thomas, ON. That is a multi-billion dollar undertaking and if VW puts the brakes on that it will have a big impact on the local economy. And yes, people will get angry over that.

This was in reply to a comment I made about avoiding American small business. I see nothing in his comment that warrants such a remark. If you disagree with something specific in the quoted text, fine, make a counterpoint. Save your petty snide remarks for posts that deserve it. Name calling and derision does nothing to educate people or make them rethink their position. It only weakens your own position as you sink to other's level. I am open to debate on difficult subjects with people who have opposing views but some of the behaviour in the Steam Vent has been downright childish.

You should pay more attention to his posting history and just read a little. Can't be that hard to do before you post?

Seriously, I have no life.

But even if we agree on some of what we need, Congress won't act on it, unless it's them digging in their heels. Imagine if term limits, no lobbying and divesting of their control over financials were to gain traction- I imagine them saying "We did all of these things for you and this is how you thank us?". We could say "Hey! you shouldn't be doing this for our gratitude, you should be doing it for the country as a whole! If you do your job right, gratitude will take care of itself".

I can imagine a lot of things. Congress at this point is a rubber stamp for the drumph, so complicit in this travesty. Your analogies, meh

Yes I can confirm this is true.
