I'm not sure Cerwin-Vega was ever among the "greats" like Altec-Lansing, Acoustic Research, JBL, Advent, or the like, but they were "legendary." I'm not sure on the sound for audiophyleness, but they were loud party speakers, great for rock.

A friend of mine told me he visited a trade show back in the 70s and the guy at the CV booth, to show how indestructible the speakers were, I guess, actually took the speaker wire and plugged it into a 120v outlet. Speakers gave a nice ear-deafening 60hz blast.

As a CV owner, I can flat-out tell you they are not acurate. They are good for one thing only. Cranking. Thay are loud, tough, and have plenty of bass. But, they are by no means a listeners speaker. They are a party speaker.

That was certainly always my impression of them. ("Sounds like crap, but at least it is rally loud crap!":D)

I certainly wouldn't say they sound like crap. It just depends on what you are looking for.
If I took a teenager, or an early twenty-year-old, and had them listen to my two front speakers alone, they would laugh. There are just not many people who appreciate the detail. In fact, you see many people who state they can't tell a difference between B&W 700 series, and 800 series. I, on the other hand, can tell a huge difference.
If someone wants their home system to resemble a car system, or a dance club, CV is the perfect choice.
If someone wants their system to reproduce the sound of an unplugged live band in a studio, as they sound in the studio, CV is not the choice.

Come on guys, for the LOUDEST BASS, you need some kind of a powered subwoofer! One such example is the Definitive BP7006 ($850/pr @ digitalcraze.com). If the OP just wants the loudest bass tower for under $900 (no separate subwoofer), he would just have to crank up the powered subwoofer volume/gain control on the back of the tower.

#1) I am 99.9% sure digitalcraze is not authorized to sell.
#2) Deaf Tech can't touch CV in the terms of LOUD BASS in a two speaker system.
#3) The OP clearly stated they wanted two towers. Clearly, they don't want what you want. Heck, I use a 5.1 system, and I don't want what you want.;)

Lets' see. One BP7006, Two BP7006. That's TWO towers.

Def Tech isn't the only one who makes Built-in Powered Sub Tower speakers. Aperion, AV123, Linkwitz Orion, BeoLab 5, & Linn Komri are other examples.

It's just a fact that POWERED subwoofers produce more bass than plain passive woofers (not powered). Sure, the subwoofers in the BP7006s may not match a SVS, HSU, AV123 sub, but the TWO subs in the TWO BP7006s will produce more BASS than a CV 3-way speaker without a built-in subwoofer.

Abt Electronics is authorized, and they will price match Digitalcraze. I've called them before and that's how I know.

Hey, just FYI. Next time you quote a frequency response, make sure it has a tolerance +/-3dB or similar.

Is the 26 Hz - 20 kHz +/- 50 dB @ 94 dB w/m?:D

No, only the people who have mains with built-in-subs to cover-up how crappy they sound.;)
I don't mean to bash, but Deaf Tech speakers don't impress me. I have auditioned them, told the dealer what I thought, and the next time I went in, that same dealer had replaced the DT line with B&W. Now, everyone would laugh if you were to say DT sounds better than B&W.
It is clear to me that the OP has a limited expense fund, and just wants to jam. You can't answer every thread as if you are building your own 5.1 system. I didn't come in and say for the OP to get what I have, because that is certainly not what they are looking for.

Posted the specs that were listed by CV. Tis all I can do.

I do believe your reply shows how much you understand specs. That's typical of a Deaf Tech consumer. Specs sell the speaker.

And I was looking around and realized the BIC Acoustech HT-88 go down to 25hz at +/-3db and they were designed and engineered with the help of Hsu Research. They can be had for under $600 a pair.

I have my doubts that the new Ht-88 can go that low or loud enough for what the OP wants. My av123 X-LS bookshelves have better bass than the HT-65 towers I have.

Man, get it through your head that TWO Definitive BP7006 speakers are just a 2.0 System!!!

NOT 5.1!!

Get it?

Actually, it would be 2.2:rolleyes:

Get it:confused:

We don't even know if the OP using an AV receiver. OP stated not using a sub. Your idea is using two.

Anybody else here notice that the OP hasn't posted since the initial post?

There is just no way a speaker with a 8" woofer is going to produce louder bass than a speaker with a 15" woofer. And as far as specs go, this comes straight from the DT website:
Freq. Response: 17 Hz – 30 kHz
Nominal Impedance: Compatible with 8 ohms
Rec. Assoc. Amp.: 20 – 250 Watts/channel
Driver Complement:
– Two 4-1/2" high definition cast-magnesium basket polymer upper bass/midrange drivers.
– Two 1" pure aluminum dome tweeters with silk surrounds.
– One 8" long-throw subwoofer coupled to two 8" infrasonic radiators.
Efficiency: 92 dB

Now lets look at this.
1) The frequency response is listed the same way as CV. My guess is +/-6dB.
2) There is no way a 8" woofer is going to produce a usable 17Hz.
3) The mids are defined as "high definition." Does this mean they work well with BR players, or they work well with HDTV?
4) They are also defined as bass drivers.
5) I have a hard time believing a 8" woofer will produce a usable 17Hz. I don't have a hard time believing a 15" woofer will produce a usable 26Hz.

I guess you are waiting on me to log off. Well, that is about to happen. It has been fun, but the gig is up. Most senior members are aware of the marketing used by DT. It has been done by Bose and Monster already. I can't help the fact they market their product the way they do. It's nothing personal against you, and I honestly mean no disrespect. Night.:)

Maybe this would do the trick :) .
