Conducting some auditions with the sub's 2 o'clock Gain setting...

Ok for the Eagles' "Hotel California" and Elton John's "Candle in the Wind", but

The Diana Krall "Live In Paris" concert has Clayton playing his big Bass. Don't know how much amplification they are using for that instrument, but 2 o'clock sub setting is not pleasant. That concert requires to dial the sub down to 11 O'Clock for sure.
mfabien, I have The Diana Krall "Live In Paris" concert DTS with Clayton playing his big Bass.this is a real instrument called double Bass and this is it natural sound it is very powerfall and it definetly requires to dial the sub down for sure. the problem is not your SVS sub. you need to play with the receiver's LFE level up and down according to your ears.

The 13W7 isn't a bad driver if found at a discount on ebay.

I also like a pair of Dayton 15" Titanics in a large enclosure. Not bad, considering the price.

If this was the case I would have replaced my drivers a few times. My receiver is at 1+, sub gain 11:30(about 6db hot), ss fiter ant 20hz and all ports open. I know this is NOT recommended and have been told by Ron and Tom that this would be detrimental to amp and drivers, but I've running these setting for about 2yrs with no problems. Running with these settings for 1yr with the plus/2 and a year with the ultra/2. I frequently listen at -5 of reference and refefence level whenever the the family is away. No distortion, no bottoming, no problem. My room is just over 5000cubed.
I don't understand - what exactly is not reccomended about what you're doing? I just got a 20-39 PC+ and I run all ports open tuned to 20hz - I thought this was the reccomended way to run it?

You're fine...I prefer the 20hz tune, but listen to 16hz with one port plugged from time to time. He's got the +2 or Ultra2...different beast.

Received today and played back Michael Murray's "An Organ Blaster Sampler" and more specifically Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor...

This is a most powerful music piece and not only to see and hear what a sub can do but your Front speakers as well. My Front speakers are good and have never disappointed me. But this piece makes me dream of exotic speakers because it is easy to estimate how much more very big speakers could do justice to this recording.
