I keep my wife informed every step of the way. I demonstrate what it is that could be better and let her know what options are available to fix it. I always take her audio shopping with me.

Case in point: subwoofers. I have huge room mode issues which I could easily demonstrate to her. One attempt to mitigate this was to bring in the second sub, which she liked very much. But while it sounded great, it didn't really do much to tame the room modes. So I explained what the SMS-1 was intended to do and got one. I tuned it with just the SVS, which gave a much flatter response, but she didn't like the effect as much with the two subs. She actually requested that I go back to having both subs in the room with the SMS-1. I figure this was because she understood and had some experience with the effect that two subs could have. She is developing her own expectations for the system and has no problem with whatever upgrades are needed. She is personally invested in the system and appreciates each little improvement along the way.

That's the problem - I know my limits all too well, they're just not as high as I would like them to be.

I was checking out some stuff on th B&W site this weekend and showed my wife the 802D. She actually liked the way they looked. At least until I told her how much they cost. I then explained that they have various components available for DIY. She already knows that that is considerably cheaper. I am thinking a DIY set of CM7's may be in order (when I have the funds anyway).

I know I was discussing with you in PM when I suggested using the CM7 and building a proper cabinet for it. But 1st check to see what a full set of B&W 802D drivers and crossover would cost.

Word of caution for you.

That kind of open communication is never going to work out and will produce a longer than average marriage which means you will be stuck with the same women the rest of your life...

Haha, My G/f has the Plasma, I have my receiver and speakers in her apt, she bought the AV123 X sub, and bought me COD4 last night for PS3. I win

Oh and this morning, she suggested instead of buying an HD-DVD player, we should get a combo player!

Lucky man... I haven't even BEGUN to broach the issue about upgrading my display at this point! I'm more concerned with the audio aspect of my system at the moment, and it's still proving to be a challenging affair. I'm in for a long haul on this one...

We had very few requirements of our new home - but one of them was that my wife insisted that the family room TV be fully visible from anywhere in the kitchen for when she was microwaving dinner. (hardly the cook she isn't)

I've always been blessed with very few WAF issues. Big towers in the family room, the 60" plasma (Pioneer), the 18" subwoofer (Velodyne) and because 60" really is NOT big enough, the 106" motorized screen and proejctor in the room to make things more interesting.

All the while, my wife kicks back in the recliner and watches movies on Blu-ray with me... or complaining about how lousy the shows on SDTV look.

Not to bad of a way to do things.

This weekend I must now hookup the Onkyo 705 and some of the SV 5.1 speakers
