The time has come to replace the bulb in my NEC HT1000 projector after 2 plus years. Will I see a major difference in some of the lower cost projectors out on the market now - such as the Ben Q PE7700 DLP Projector? The cost of the bulb is around $450 so I am wondering if it might be time to upgrade. I have a dedicated media room (completely dark) and am interested primarily in viewing HD shows and videos. The NEC projector has been awesome and I have no complaints so far.
Well, if you want to consider the option to upgrade instead of replacing the bulb, you should consider a modern projector, 3 color chip that replaces the color wheel, and one that would be capable of doing 1080 progressive as the HD type DVD players are coming this year. Or, buy the bulb and save for the next time for sure.
I would not upgrade to an obsolete unit.
