Thoughts on the Klipsch RF7-III

Good evening all. Does anyone have any experience with the Klipsch RF7-III speakers? I’ve read the reviews and for the right price ($3200/pair) they appear to be outstanding candidates. I recently traded my Polk R700’s with my brother for his Klipsch RP8000F-II’s. I really like the Klipsch sound even though the R700’s were, IMO, equally as impressive. I’m clearly never satisfied.

Hard to know how you might like particular speakers. Suggest you compare both in your own room/setup for preference. I would look to other brands than Polk or Klipsch personally....

The RF-7 IIIs will have more dynamic range but they won't be as linear. I would have stuck with the Polks over the Klipsch speakers, at least for my own tastes.

Your ears and brain are the final judge.....but, man...the Polk 700's are/were such a sweet nice speaker.
Those Klipsch's are, well Klipsch's.
They all look like 80's rack system speakers. (besides the "in your face" sound presentation)

If you are happy that's all that matters.
Given your age, there might be a good reason the Klipsch's do more for you.
I'm 68, but my ears are still pretty damn good.

My shortlist is only for advice. I have never bought a completed speaker. I only buy wood, finishing products, raw driver, crossover components, active crossovers and amps. That is the extent of my purchases for speakers which has served me very well for 70 years now.

You did ask for Klipsch opinions...

They don't even not make my shortlist, they make my totally avoid list.
Just wait until those ones you want sell for half price like all Klipsch speakers do, which speaks volumes.
If you are looking for affirmation on your speaker swap, good luck.

Many people choose the louder, more efficient speaker over a better, less efficient one....like you just did.
Your business of course, but you did make this public.

As far as your hearing goes, you would be the first human ever to not have high frequency deficiency at your age.
If i'm a clown for pointing this out, ok...Im a clown.

It’s a personal decision. Clearly you’re buying for yourself, not for everyone else here.

Reminds me when a colleague pharmacist said to me, “Andrew, I truly love the sound of those Klipsch towers”.

I replied, “Really?” And he answered, “ I really do!”

I liked the sound of the Klipsch RF7 towers. Probably not my favorite choice, but I liked them, especially for the money and the dual 10” woofers.

To me, the RF7’s with dual 10” woofers are more like “fun party” towers.

So if you’ve lived with them and love their sound, you should also love the RF7.

In general, I do favor big towers with dual 10” or 12” woofers - like my RBH SX-T2 (dual 10”) and SVT (dual 12”) towers.

Show us your audiogram? Who cares how good you think your hearing is? Have you ever heard of psychoacoustics?

I owned a pair once in a HT setup, even there they were sub-par.

I have a set of RF7III's and RC64iii. I like them and am using them over PSA's that I sold and Monolith 460's and center. I have a room with some real acoustic challenges, and I can't explain why but the RC64 worked beset for my seating position. I really like the Monolith towers but the center didn't sound as full but I'm keeping the Monoliths too.

I have Infinity Reference in my living room and love those for that room. Like the Klipsch for the room they are in.

I plan to keep them. But I'll say I got them for a crazy deal. At their current price, I would be careful at that level of investment over what you have without perhaps listening to them somewhere because I can't speak to the incrementality you will experience.

I have no doubt a lot of people think Klipsch speakers sound great.

But the truth is, if the speakers (any brand including B&W, DefTech, GoldenEar, Paradigm, Klipsch) don’t have great FR measurements, they will get bashed on forums.

I have always sleeked out people's advise on this site when I have replaced speakers several time over the past 12+years. What I have found is that you have very knowledgeable people who gave give you really good insight.

At the end of the day, it has helped me to avoid some huge mistakes, but I still purchased the speakers which I felt sounded best to me at my budget. I got no love from many as a former GE and Paradigm Studio speaker owner, but, I never regrated my purchases (except Monster Cable interconnects back in 2010 lol)

• Take the feedback with thick skin, it will help you to avoid some major mistakes
• Get the speakers that sound best to you in your budget, you have to live with them and your wife, and friends will never ask you "How do the Measure" . I would also demo speakers other have suggested as you may find you like their suggestions better.
• The hearing audiologists test is worth it. I have the hearing of an 18 year old with a dip around 9-12k not significant, or classified as hearing loss, but I believe that effects my speaker choice.
