I just wish I had more time in a day... So I could totally dedicate all my time to building it... but first I have to build a hot tub deck, and everything that goes with that project... Tub comes in 2 - 3 weeks and I need to have the sunken platform built, so I have to pour all the concrete first... Blah...

Sounds like you got your hands full as well.. What driver are you going with?

Nice choice on the drivers, keep us informed.
Thanks Matt... I was going to go all out, with the LMS 5400, but everyone assured me that the 2K's offer extremely good SQ as well as Power..

Coupling those drivers with a good powerful amp, like a QSC PLX2 PLX3602 @ 1800 watts for each driver... I think I will really have something... maybe a touch scary... I should be able to build both these box's for the same price of a single Ultra 13... for sure less then $2000.

HOT TUB!!!
:faints:

I want one of those too. I am trying to get that on my medical spending account next year actualy lol!

I have some bad sports injuries and might be able to get a doctors note and since I rent, it won't up property value so most of it can be reimbursed. I know a great installer too. one of my closest buddies.

well i might as well say what I plan on using... I may have a special driver built but I am planning on using 2 18" Q drivers from fi audio.

I was going to go with some extreme excursion drivers but since they were about 2000 bucks per driver... I said nope.

Well I got my 15" TC-2000 drivers in today, and they are beautiful.... 50lbs each !! I have some wait time before I can get 18" Passive drivers or any Passive drivers period from TC-Sounds, but its no big deal...

When I get a chance I will post Pics.... My buddies in the service garage part of my business didn't know I ordered them, and were looking at the boxes...
"What'd ya buy now?" I just smiled... Opened the box and pulled one of them out.... Jaws were a droppin... "What the hell are those for...?"

I told them I wanted to be able to change the climate in my house... :)

Why not use the deck as the box for the sub? ;)

New Driver Pics..

Funny my Hot Tub guy wanted me to buy the built in sound system, that has a sub booming through the bottom... cheap speakers... blah...

I was talking to a guy on another forum that did a enclosure like Im going to make, and still need to get some input from him, but a few people have already suggested going with Dual Passive 18", in each enclosure for real low extension.

Which will put me into the $1500. arena in drivers alone ... then another $1K for an amp, and materials.... Then I Started thinking I might put a Granite Top on the damn thing... Black with sparkly fleck.... Hows that for thinkin heavy duty... with dark Tigerwood either real wood or vaneer...

Here are a few pics of the new drivers, next to my SVS Plus in Piano, and my Plus/2 in Rosenut..:D

I actualy don't care about the fooseball, but I am from MN.....
Those are some sexy drivers. It makes me want to get started on mine. I'm amazed you are going to put 1800 watts to each.. sounds scary!

I may have to sell something and get cash in hand to start this stuff up right! but if I do that I need to be thinking about those little circles with a diamond in it..... ungh

Too funny dem beats...

I get so much cr@p about my Packer Stuff.... I just have to laugh....

The more I research this the more I change my mind about which direction I am going here.... I may end up going ported here.... Got a really sexy looking design of from some guy who is giving me some guidance... but I really am in no hurry.

I got my lower (sunken) hot tub deck finished, and tub came on Wed., got the electricity done thurs.... So for right now, its up and running... :) Now to build the upper surrounding deck.... I should have it mostly completed by next week... Structure anyway... Then there is all the little crap to finish up...

I'll post a picture after work today... :)

I promised some pics of my Hot tub deck, and I have been lacking in putting them up... it has been an aweful Love hate chore to get this project closer to completion, but I just need to put on the skirt boards around the outside area of the deck... and a railing, but I'm leaving the railing to next year... GOTS ME SOME SUBS TO BUILD !!! So here we go with some start to finish... sortof...
At least I can say that I did it myself... Gotta love the pic with my toy bobcat in the background.. One of my very favorite big boy toys... :)

And now on to the next reason I had brought this post back to life...

I have added another couple pieces to the mix, the counterparts to my buddies the Dual 15" TC-2000's.... The Powerplants... Dual QSC 2502's bridged, that which will produce an astounding 2500 watts for each driver... :)

I think this is the first time I have heard of QSC Audio Products.

Why did you choose them?

I have been following alot of build threads for quite some time now, and there are a few decent quality amps out there, I think that maybe Behringer is probably at the bottom of the list in quality and price, but measures up to be quite the bang for the buck these days, then I guess that Crown would come up next as far as quality goes... There are a lot of good quality amps out there, but on the performance/build quality, QSC is pretty high on the list....
Both these amps come with a 6 year warranty... These are some of the top runners out there that will perform above and beyond what Im after for THD.

The destination I have for these drivers should far and away outperform the new Ultra13 by leaps and bounds... ;)

Im really looking forward to the results of these nasties... :D:eek:

From everything I have read on the Behringer EP2500 it is a great amp. Why exactly is it so low on the scale? Mike C even found that it seems the EP2500 is basically the same thing as the QSC model you have, see this thread.

The main reason it seems most people claim the EP2500 to have low build quality is because of its name "Behringer" has a negative connotation in many audiophile minds. From what I have read and conversations with owners the EP2500 is an overbuilt monster of an amp that is great value because it is a great amp.

There have been a number of threads where upon bridging the EP2500 that it had clipped out quite a bit sooner then other higher quality amps...

I had measured up the playing field a number of different times here, and opted to go with the QSC... maybe Im just stupid, but to me its like all the rest of my equipment, I haven't cheaped out so far.... I spent double the amount here, which was still well within my standards... Maybe Im reaching for the stars, but hey what the hell.... people regularly spend 10 to 15K on speakers, are we crapping on them for this incredibly subjective hobby of ours....?

My buddy is a sound engineer for multiple recording studios and threatened to drop a #2 on my hardwood floor If I bought a Behringer amp as he has dealt with so many different amps over 20 years..... He is also the reason I got the great deal on my amps... one I couldn't pass up..

Ultimately the amps here are one of the smallest investments that I am putting into this project... Exotic Hardwood for both boxes will exede the amount of $$ Im putting into this project, as well as the Granite top that will serve as the top of my Glorious Downfiring End Tables....

Nice job on the deck Warp! Is that a composite decking that you used with a wooden frame underneath? The color contrasts are quite different.

Have you decided on the enclosure size for the the end table designs? Passive radiators?

Hey there annunaki.....

Yes that is a composite deck on green treated lumber.... It got to be a long project, as when I started it, my project brought 2-3 weeks of rain, which really slowed me down... workin in the mud sucks... :(
I looked at doing a tigerwood, or something else for decking, but didn't want too much maintenance and I was also warned that they splinter, and it was about 4 times the price... that composite deck normally cost's about $3.50 a linear ft, and I got a deal on it from my buddy for $2.00.... I really liked working with it..

As far as the sub.... I got talked out of the PR idea, and also I only have 2 18" PR's and I should really have 4 for that job.... 2 - 18"ers for each 2K.

My build thread is HERE
I ended up going to a 270 liter (9.5 cu.ft) ported box...

There have been a number of threads where upon bridging the EP2500 that it had clipped out quite a bit sooner then other higher quality amps...
This amplifier has been measured by credible 3rd party(a Crown technician on AVSFORUM). It measures superbly and does not clip out bridged unless you drive a 2 ohm load in bridged mode --- it was designed for 4 ohms in bridged. This amplifier outputs about 2000 real, very low THD watts into 4 ohms bridged operation, according to measurements. Stereo mode is fine for 2 ohm loads.

The build quality of this amplifier is very high in all aspects. Overall, it is constructed somewhat better than my Adcom GFA-555 amplifier, for example. It is far superior to my Crown XLS pro amplifiers in all regards of construction(even down to the quality of the PCBs and binding posts), yet people generally consider the Crown XLS amplifiers to be very good. Frankly, people that claim the EP2500 is not a good amplifier seem to be blinded my preconceived notions based on it's name alone.

As an interesting example of uncorrelated quality perception vs. performance: an amplifier called the 'Buttkicker' was very popular for subwoofer amplification not long ago, and presumed by most whom used it to be of good quality. In fact, upon credible 3rd party measurement and analysis, it is a pile of *junk([I*]it can barely meat 1/2 rated power, and that is only met when at double digit THD, and some units have been reported by owners to randomly smoke or catch on fire![/I])
