the only responses worth reading were the ones presented by folks who have actually done residential / commercial wiring.

HiFiSoundGuy is an idiot with zero science education. That is the only take home from that thread.

I like the green marker suggestion-maybe someone should market green Teflon tape and combine the "benefits" of both tweaks. It's sure to sell for at least $39.99 per 5 foot piece. Also, those of us in CA probably need even more to mitigate the excess prong vibrations caused by the almost constant earth movement.

Ohhh.... Green teflon power cords... Cryogenic ones!

Yes, yes, yes... We have a new product for the audiophooles.

There is some decent discussion in that thread, but it is all coming from those with enough common sense to know what they are talking about.

I would suppose, as most of us know, that a good electrical connection is important, and without it, some products may not get the power they need. I can see how this may help with a poor outlet - just as bending the prongs would. But, it seems like the best recommendation for those who care, would be to start with a good outlet and a solid connection from the start.

Heck, companies like Middle Atlantic make surge strips designed to be hard wired into 20amp circuits. Seems like that makes sense for those who want to ensure solid power to all their gear.

Still, a lot of BS in that thread. Very frustrating to read that some people actually believe what they write, and have turned science into religion.

I can't believe that thread went on for over 140 posts. I couldn't make it past the forth page.
It's human nature. Far too many people have a similar lack of Critical Reasoning in more than one aspect of their lives. Not healthy behavior, but that never stopped anyone. :D
Opinions are the result of paying attention to information which confirms what we already believe, while ignoring information which challenges our preconceived notions.

I don't find that unbelievable because I have been made to believe whatever anyone say anything (I mean anything) someone will believe it or not believe it regardless.

I smell troll on that thread. After reading a few pages it sure gets me riled up. I bet none of these people open the speakers and mod them too. What if you put the effort into adding bracing, improving crossovers. You could even build your own amp. Modding a power cable is a waste of effort. Unless you are making it look better. Even then I think these cats need to start where the sound is made with mods. You could make nearly infinite mods to speakers that would improve them.

I love this (pot meet kettle response):

I replaced the original outlets first with Hubbels, then with Pass and Seymour, and then with Acme (silver plated P&S that have been cryogenically treated). This was about 8 years ago and I could definitely appreciate the changes.

But the Teflon-tape-on-the-prongs did not make a difference chez nous.

The funny thing is, he started with one of the best pieces of hardware and then worked his way down the food chain.
