They don't have the same punch as the old ones
seems like quite the generalization with no back up. Exactly the kind of thing that's frowned upon here. Any facts or statistics to back it up?

Probably has more to do with speakers or room acoustics than just the amp.

What amp do you have? How old is it, and how much did it cost new?

Why are the new recievers not built as well as the old ones
Define "old".

The new ones have more functionality in the same form factor. Seven or nine channels versus five or two. Really old receivers were rated as defined by the FTC (all channels driven, within a defined frequency range, at a defined THD level). New receivers are rated who-knows-how.

But most likely the differences are in your head, or the speakers.

MSRP on that was $1695 when it first came out. Your brothers was $499. And since you edited, the v1000 was $999, for anyone looking for a reference,

Oh, gee. I'm at a loss for why a $5000 receiver performs better than a ~$600 HTIB.
That's the funny thing he payd 1300 for his amp and was told its out performs the rx-v2095 and others from around this time pireod

In some ways, it will outperform it - it has more features, for example.

I'm sure that this is some misunderstanding on my part about the currency conversion, but Google says that the Australian and U.S. dollars are nearly identical. $1300 is very high to pay for that.

Maybe in your country I'm
From Australia rember
Those prices are from the states, where most of the members here are from. It gives people a solid point of reference. Either way, just because a sales man (who's making commission) said that power wise a $500 avr would outperform a $1700 avr from 5 years ago doesn't make it true.

It's not just the bench tests I've performed hear today to provide an insure as to the sales man talking rubbish about these new recievers out performaning the older genarations I've also read in a few fourms that the new amps out perform over every other amp from an older generation I provided my results as to see how much more performance the new gear had over the older generation I proved the sales man and my brother inlaw wrong with the performance of both my aged recievers in a way that's unexplainable sure these new Amos have more gadgets but power wise I think the manufacturing part of things have changed they slap numbers and words on these things and se
To not be close to the evidence sorry for the confusion wasn't trying to make every fourm member attack me at once

How exactly did you bench test them? What equipment did you use, what procedures, and what were the RMS and peak results?
