Not too bad. The ending started to lose me as the pace was disrupted during the "reveal", but it still wrapped up fairly well and was well acted (for the most part). It is a decent psychological thriller and the sound was pretty good too.

The critics stomped this one into the ground. The reviews were so hideous that I haven't even considered trying it.:(

It wasn't as bad as the critics made it out to be. It wasn't great, but it was better than I expected. I'd call it a rental for sure, not a blind buy.

I thought it was pretty good up until the end. I thought the ending was lame.

I didn't think it was lame, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. That's why I say it is a rental. We have 1408 still to watch...

I've got 1408 too, (the last of my free in-store Blockbuster exchanges). Hopefully that one's good. I didn't hear anything about it though, and that usually isn't a good sign. But Cusack is one of my favorite actors, and Stephen King writes good stories, (though the movie adaptations almost always suck). I haven't heard of this story though. Anyone know what book it was in?

I got them both from my brother and he said 1408 was better than 23 and so did my daughter. We shall see... I am not a big Cusack fan; I like him mostly in his earlier stuff.

Better Off Dead is one of my all-time favorites.

SK adaptations are a mixed bag. Cujo and Dreamcatcher, for example, both sucked big ones, while The Green Mile and Misery were excellent. Most fall somewhere in-between.

1408 was much better than 23. IMO.

Not only was it better than 23, but it is one of the better horror/thriller flicks I have seen in a while.
23 was a tad predictable for me, although it was decent, I certainly agree it is a rental and not for blind buys.

1408, IMO, is also a rental but would be ok as a blind buy.

Hmm, for the fun of it (not that I trust the scores), let's see what IMDB scores them at???

1408 currently at 7.3 out of LOL 24K votes. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0450385/
and 23 currently at 6.3 out of 25K votes. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0481369/

Meh, I would agree (for the most part) with the votes on 23 but the votes on 1408, I would give it no more than a 7.
Granted, I did say much better than 23, so I would give 23 no more than a 6.
As well, take my reply with a grain of salt, as I am not into horror type flicks.
Out of the 1.7K DVDs currently owned, about 5% are horror type flicks.

I like horror flicks. Watched 1408 this weekend and while it was better than 23, I agree, it is a rental. It is better than the last Cusack thriller I saw: Identity which was semi-decent, but disappointing in the end. 1408 at least held up the whole way, though it did start to get a little overboard, but the ending was decent.
