The most beautiful song.

An assorted selection (for a variety of reasons): Tool - H.; Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses (I don't even care much for horses, heh; that's not really the whole point of the song though); Opeth, anything from Damnation (not their normal album, but incredible none-the-less); Louis Armstrong - A Kiss to Build a Dream On (it'd only insult the artist if I mentioned where I first heard this song); The Mars Volta - Televators (it makes more sense once you decode -- yes, decode -- the album); Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here; and -- for now -- lastly, Nine Inch Nails (or Cash, if that's your preference, just as good) - Hurt.

They're all great artists all-around if you share similar tastes.

Hmmm, I cant seem to find it anywhere, and boy do I want to hear it.
This is why,

Lyrics...

"You’re breakin’ my heart
You’re tearing it apart so **** you

All I want to do is have a good time now I’m blue
You won’t boogaloo,
Run down to Tramps, have a dance or two, ooohhh
You’re breakin’ my heart,
You’re tearing it apart but **** you

You’re breakin’ my heart
You’re tearing it apart, boo-hoo

You stepped on my ***
You’re breakin’ my glasses too
You won’t drive my car, might be a star
I’ve had enough of you
I’m goin’ insane
There’s no one to blame so **** you

Instrumental break #1

You can’t have your way
There’s nothing left to say
There’s nothing left to do, ooooohhh
You’re breakin’ my heart
You’re tearing it apart so **** you

Instrumental break #2

You gotta have your way
There’s nothing left to say
There’s nothing left to do, ooooowww
You’re breakin’ my heart
You’re tearing it apart but I love you"

Yep, very touching indeed..

The song sounds like it belongs on a R rated sesame street.

It's on his "Son Of Schmilsson" album...........
He has done some beautiful music. This song (You're Breaking My Heart) just isn't one of them. :)

The song he'll probably be remembered for most, for singing but not writing, is "Without You", from the "Nilsson Schmilsson" album. That is a beautiful song. Other people have done it too, but no one can do it as well as Nilsson. Heart did a pretty good version of it, on their "Magazine" album. I've heard some people call it "I Can't Live", but that's wrong........

A funny song, and one he wrote, that a lot of people remember him for, is "Coconut". They play it occaisionally on the oldies radio stations. You know...........
Put the lime in the coconut, drink the bowl up................silly, but good song.

Nilsson was a talent! He played all the parts and vocals on those albums (dubs and overdubs). His musical movie cartoon, The Point, was a big hit at colleges and clubs. (Remember Me And My Arrow?) He is missed.

Only Classical

Johann Sebastian Bach - "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"

George Frideric Handel - "Water Music - Suite in F Major; Aire"

or

Johann Pachelbell - "Canon in D Major"

If that doesn't mellow the soul, nothing will.

Ah, so it is Harry Nilsson that did the original version of Without You. I have a version of that song by Badfinger but didn't think it was the original version that I remember...so now I know.

Yep, he was first and foremost a songwriter. He wrote stuff for the Monkees (gag), Three Dog Night, Yardbirds, etc. I remember a huge blowup way back when...he and his buddy John Lennon got into some trouble drinking their way through Hollywood. Interesting guy. The Point was really creative. I think the guy was one of those genius-artist types who burn out way too soon.

"Honey, all the other guys are taking theirs." Sam Kinnison

"Nope, the d*ck stays here".

Too funny. That and "move where the food is" are two of the funniest comedy bits ever.

Yes he is........... The good ones die young. I can't even imagine what he'd be doing today. Like to see some of his stuff make it to dvd-a or sacd.
I have The Point. I think I have all his albums, but not absolutely sure. Plus I have his "All Time Greatest Hits" cd.

Yeah, yet another shooting star that burned out before its time! So sad.

I still have a quad vinyl recording of "Schmillson", so I know it exists in multichannel (4.0) format. Maybe one of the boutique companies (Music Direct?) will release it on SACD or DVD-A. Unfortunately, I don't have a SQ or CD-4 decoder, so I can only listen to it in 2 channel. There are also MoFi gold CD and RCA gold CD (very rare) releases of this title (both 2 channel) for the completists out there.

I have a vinyl copy of "Duit on Mon Dei", a great quirky album. There are some beautiful melodies on there. On the other hand you have "Jesus Christ You're Tall" which I always thought was funny. He was a great talent. He drank himself to death.

U2

I still haven't found what i'm looking for by U2. Like both the version from their Joshua Tree album and from the live rattle and hum album. Mothers of the dissapeared is a haunting song as well.

In the classical vein, try Andrea Bocelli's, " Con de Partio" (Time to Say Goodbye). There are several version out all are great.

It's in French. Which is strange since British Airways co-opted it for their ad campaign in the 80's. Another airline ad version which I think is better than the standard is United's version of Rhapsody in Blue (Gershwin).

Someone mentioned "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake - very good choice.

Personally, I like "War Pigs" by Ozzie

Then Kate Bush doing Elton John's "Rocket Man"

Then the Who's "Love Reign Over Me"

"One of These Days" Pink Floyd

"Air on a G String" and "Arioso" by Bach

"Gallows Pole" by Led Zeppelin (just what did his sister do to the hangman?)

All make the eyes moist
