The most beautiful song.

If I spent some time really thinking about it, I could probably come up with dozens of songs that I personally find touching, but one song that definitely comes to mind is Lonesome Dove by Garth Brooks - almost makes me cry every time I hear it.

The rigid MDS is no more. :D

I must say, this is a wicked thread idea. Waffles rule too! :D

Off the top of my head,

Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Follow You into the Dark
Death Cab For Cutie - Brothers On a Hotel Bed
Death Cab For Cutie - Someday You Will Be Loved
http://www.myspace.com/deathcabforcutie

Thrice - For Miles
http://www.myspace.com/thrice

Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger

Poison The Well - Apathy is a Cold Body (harder music, but still hits a emotional cord)

Billy Talent - Surrender
Billy Talent - Pin and Needles
http://www.myspace.com/billytalent

Atreyu - The Theft
http://www.myspace.com/atreyurock

I don't know why most of my stuff is DCFC, but they make some excellent music. Poison The Well is metalcore/hard rock, but the tone and mood swings in the song are really nifty. I know Billy Talent is an odd choice. Reasoning: Its all in the lyrics, Esp. for "Surrender" ;)

Click the myspace links to preview some songs(not all the bands had the songs I chose up).

Once again, wicked thread idea Waffles.

remember I don't like buying DVD's or CDs here in the Philippines ... well I just bought something from Amazon:

Utada Hikaru - Singles collection

check out the song "Final Distance"

btw, the CD was made in the Philippines. I actually paid more to buy a CD that was made here, flew to the US, shipped from amazon to LA, then was flown back here to me. (sucks to be me)

I hope that others will chime in with their picks on this thread. One reason I think that I have been addicted to music since I was a kid is that music just moves you. The lyrics don't necessarily have to be super 'deep' but every song tells a story (some better than others of course)...

Off topic slightly to this thread but just for example I STILL remember the first time I heard 'I can't drive 55' by Sammy Hagar. I was a senior in high school ('84) and had a 77 Z-28 with a 4 speed...was just driving along and the song came on and suddenly I felt like spinning the tires and opening up that (rather anemic :)) 350. Music does that to you...you associate times and events in your life with the music.

I have a few top favorites for stuff like that. Here's a small list in no particular order:

Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life Vol. 1 (Sides 1 and 2 for all you Vinyl people ;) ). Yes, it's not just one song, but the way this entire half of the album fits together is amazingly powerful.

Steely Dan - Katy Lied (selected tracks): Bad Sneakers, Rose Darling, and Dr. Wu. These three songs are simply amazing. It's hard to find more emotion in Fagen's voice than in these three songs.

Chuck Mangione - Feels So Good. Yes, it's cheesy. But it really does make me feel so good.

On a more "groove-oriented" mood, it's hard to get more funky than Maceo Parker's live arrangement of Southwick from his Life on Planet Groove album entitled simply Shake Everything You Got. Everything is... So. Damn. Funky.

The most beautiful song I've ever heard is called "Personne ne m'a jamais dit je". I don't know who it's by. My favorite beautiful rock song is "White Bird", by "It's A Beautiful Day".

For me, the most beautiful song is "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush. Anytime it comes on, I have to stop everything I'm doing cos the song moves me so much. With or without the gorgeous accompanying video, I get tears rolling down my cheeks and the hair on my arms stand up on end.

cheers,

This is a tough choice, I just spent the past 10 minutes pondering.

The Beatles: In My Life

Honorable Mention:

The Ray Charles Rendition: America the Beautiful
Eric Clapton: Beautiful Tonight

I get that same feeling, but with Hot For Teacher by Van Halen. I open up 1.7 liters of honda powah!

Beautiful?

...I think there are many beautiful lyrics and melodies...the only song that makes me cry is Greg Lake's I Believe In Father Christmas...The realization that it all (not just Christmas BTW ) seems to be a pack of lies is way too powerful...

jimHJJ(...the Christmas we get we deserve...)

I see we're all in touch with our tender sides. ;)

The Dance - Garth Brooks...heard it just after my second heart attack. The missus heard it on the way to the hospital when she found out I went in. She later bought it and played it for me.

What a Wonderful World, Louis Armstrong

My favorites have changed through the years, but that one has stuck with me the longest.

Must be his great singing voice?;)

Ha, cool, didnt think I would ever get this many replies.

Music is very powerful.

I took a listen to most of the songs posted here, they are touching, and moving.
Though I want to give you a little back story on 'The Echo Never Fades'.

The song was written in the rememberence of young boy named Taylor Caruso, he was a model student, and the one person everyone could rely on.

A letter was sent from Taylor's High Schools music instructor, requesting a peice be composed for this lost boy.

He was reluctant at first, but then started receiving emails from Taylor's various freinds, reqeusting he compose this mosterpeice.

The name comes from one of Taylor's poems.

His mother vowed to always attend each performance of this song that she could. We did try to get a hold of here, but unfortuneatly, we couldnt.

I hope this helps you better understand this peice.

Tonight by Elton John.
Reminds me of my second marriage. Maybe the first. I forget. (Fake sniff).
Regardless, Nice classical piano, orchestral movements, great lyrics, IMO one of EJ's most over looked songs.

For a true music lover it is very hard to say which song is the most beautiful as all music is beautiful.

There are many many beautiful songs, I can only say that "Us and Them" (DSOTM) is one of many songs I still enjoy as the first time. (specially in the SACD version)
