Test CD (or DVD) for setting a HT Equalizer

Hi. I recently (today) acquired a Rane SSE 35 Home Theater Equalizer. Do any of you know of any easy-to-use audio test CD's that would aid me in setting the EQ properly? I found the Stereophile Test CD #1 on Amazon for $10, and that looked like it might be a good (and cheap!) option, but I wanted to see if anyone has a different/better suggestion. I can't afford to buy an analyzer, so I do need to find a test CD to use with my RadioShack SPL Meter. Incidentally, I do own the Avia Guide to Home Theater, and it doesn't have nearly the audio range of tests that I will need. Thanks!

Better yet how about FREE!!! Go download the ETF software and you can analyze the room. You need to buy a mic though, but this is much better then driving yourself crazy with test tones.

If you have computer connected to your system, Glenn's suggestion is better than a test CD. But really, if you're intent on using an equalizer with the idea to make your system sound "better," I'd just do it by ear. Most test CDs will not help you with that, and using an EQ properly is not trivial even with proper test gear.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I cannot easily use the ETF software because everyone in my household uses Apple/Macintosh computers. Do you know of any similar software that would be compatible with Apples? Thanks again, and I may be investing in some of your GIK products in the future!

I know there is one out there that is free, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. You could do a Google and see what you come up with. I will check in a few other forums if I can find it.
