It was a real toss up between reviews and new product announcements but reviews are my first choice. Reading is my only way to learn about this Audio hobby because there are not too many local stereo shops. For example my new subwoofer was purchased based on reviews and other peoples opinions. Of course it is my decision in the end but it was based on "reviews". :D

It is a toss up between set up product reviews and set up tips.

I love the set up tips, as that is what initially brought me to this website.

But reviews are important as well.

I will say this, I would rather have the through review, such as the reviews that you performed on the Denon AVR 3805 or Yamaha 2500, than the quickie, manufacturer friendly review, that is performed by some of those other print and online magazines. In other words, it is more important to do fewer reviews that are through and complete, than lots of reviews just to impress the manufacturers.

But your articles, such as the recent article about Ground Loops, or the recent article

is what keeps me coming back for more information.

What I Like and What You Don't Have

First, I really like this site ... visit all the time to get tips on setting up my Denon 3805 which I bought, at least in part, based on your review. I very much like and look forward to detailed product reviews. Maybe I don't need to hear so much about the reference system on which the review was conducted each time (I mean, I feel like I know Reference System 3 like it was my own) but that is essentially a nitpick.

I also love the set-up tips because I'm struggling with my set-up -- and the tips help, a lot.

What you don't have, though, is any follow-up reviews. You know how Consumer Reports or whatever rates automobiles based on reported problems over the life of the car? You need something like that. Like, follow up on the 3805 review a year later, based on posts to the Forums and what's happened in the marketplace -- and tell us whether Denon makes a quality product that stands the test of time. Looking back from a year's perspective, is the 3805 still the 2004 A/V Receiver of the Year (as Wired would have us believe) or is it a "flash in the pan". That's the kind of in-depth reportage that I would like to see added to the site.

And until then, I'll keep coming back to learn more! :)

Like some other people have pointed out, a lot of the articles here are good (don't let your heads swell too much, but its a great site).

I've most enjoyed the tech articles, especially the straightforwardness. I don't like reading reviews where every product is the newest greatest thing ever or where the brands that advertise on their site always have perfect scores.

Some more links to sites that cover the areas of interest in an article might be nice -- diyaudio.com or other hobbyist pages for example?

I am enjoying the reviews on the equipment and others. Seems cables are equipment arent they?? Having just found this site im still catching up. It would be interesting to see some head to head comparisions.
Thanks again, Curt

I love to read reviews. Especially, reading peoples opinion on comparing different products in the same price range like speakers. When buying speakers its always reassuring to know that the reviews confirm my purchase. I always skip reading the setup part and I guess it shows when I end up upside down tangled in speaker wires trying to hook everything up. The most rewarding part for me is inviting friends over and enjoying the music.

Final though. It would be nice to see a top 10 section. Like top 10 7.1 receivers or top 10 HT speaker packages.

Hook Up Diagrams/Schematics

What I would like to see more of is diagrams. Yep, simple old fashioned diagrams. So when you do a article on set up, show example diagrams. I look at reviews and read about supported equipment and there is lot of text. What about the old saying a picture is worth a thousand words (unless it takes a thousand words to describe the picture)

Reviews. But also add recommendations. I rarely see "the Denon receivers don't do as well with Paradigms as they do with Polks"; or "don't waste your money on a SACD player if it costs more than your amp". Most of the time reviews are done with a mix of equipment that most of us dont have. We are constantly upgrading things. Do's and don'ts help out a ton.

What everybody else said and possibly:

Equipment comparisons articles that'll cut down on the newbie questions in the fourums.
ie: Receivers: Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K vs Yamaha RX-V650

Newbie questions are fun at times, but I'm sure seeing the same ones over and over gets a tad bit old. Especially for some of the veterns in the forums.

I love the detailed Product Reviews as they educate me on what the pros look for, what the new trends and features are a sense of what is happening with prices. I of course am not buying new products every month but do follow the trends and upgrade components when I am way behind the curve. Thankfully there are knowledgeable people out there who are willing to share their opinions.

I'm not sure where my choice would lie. I like articles about soon to be released products but that would include new technology such as DTS-HD or things to look for in your next purchase such as 1394 or HDMI.
