A good rule of thumb why sh!t like that book and that TDI amp are obscure is because they're sh!t.

The system I have my lores in consists of a Audioengine dac {that I plug into my laptop}, a jolida 40w amp JOLIDA JD202BRC INTEGRATED TUBE AMP at Music Direct and the lores. Its in my bedroom and not my main listening system. I had a free corner in my room that my wife wanted to put a chair in {the chair she wanted to buy was $4500!!!} so I interjected that I had a stereo system picked out for that corner and since she already has 2 chairs in the bedroom I won that one pretty easily. But our bedroom is very large, and I liked the idea of a tube amp glowing vs a stack of solid state equipment in the corner.
So after some research and listening around, I learned 2 things 1-Tube amps are expensive {per watt} and 2-they are not very powerfull {some people say 40w from a tube amp is like 100 from a SS, well thats BS becuase I have tested the theaory and its false...}... So I demoed the jolida amp and the reviews were good, I bought mine from Musicdirect and he gave me a great deal on a demo {I spend a lot of money at music direct, very nice guys}...

Now came my next problem, I hooked the jolida to a pair of Polk bookshelfs I have, and at full tilt it wasnt loud at all, especially for my bedroom, and as soon as you walked into a closet or the master bath it sounded like headphones playing {exaggerating of course}.... So I start looking for efficient speakers, and after listeing to energy's stuff and klipsch, and a few other brands that boast sens ratings above 95db, I couldn't find anything aesthetically or sonically pleasing... A friend of mine told me about tekton and gave me erics number, I have heard the pendragons and they were impressive since they were being powered by a 4w headphone tube amplifier!!! I decided on the lores and when they came I didnt expect much, I was just hoping they would be loud enough for the room... But after plugging them in I was sold, they sound fantastic, not as warm and behaved as my wharfedale 2.2 systems but very good...

Now to answer your question, I never measured the speakers, I can not tell you what 32hz sounds like because I dont intend on running test tones through them any time soon.... But I can tell you this, live albums sound great, better than my other systems, they have that on stage feel to them, they are LOUD with very little power, the fit and finish is excellent, the Customer support and price were all good...

BUT... If you are looking for something that is going to be the best sounding theater speaker for your money and this is causing you a lot of distress in making a decision, and you are going back and forth, here is the best advise I can give you--- DEMO, and I'm not talking about in the store, I'm talking about taking them home and setting them up, then making your choices, when I was building my HT I hung 8 different speaker sets up before I decided, that is how I know that surround speakers don't differ much, I had $1100 jade 1's up there and they sounded no different than the $300 htm200's I decided on during a movie, sure put them in front of you by themselves playing some music you mwill notice the differences, but mine are ceiling mounted and there was no difference...

I honestly think Ascend offers the best bang for your buck, if they fit your needs, for home theater I like a bookshelf up front {you are crossing them to the sub, why have a tower, just more space in there to bounce around my sound, and more money}, I tried many and went with 340se's up front, and 200se's in the surrounds, with an HSU sub {another whole deciding practice there} and EVERYONE that hears this system says they can believe it was under $2000!!! It still surprises me, watching the movie Mud a few weeks ago, an unexpected gun shot went off and me and my wife JUMPED, watching the new gi joe was insane, better than a real theater....

So if you want a low powered system that is different go tekton, you wont be sorry... If you want a warm realistic home theater start where I and a lot of others finished at Ascend, if you want a really accurate music only system that you can critique to death, spend the money get a really nice dac, a decent 2 ch amp {or a pair of mono blocks}, a pair of subs and a pair of really nice bookshelfs... I like separate systems for music and movies, I don't think a great ht and music system exists... I like sealed subs for music and ported for HT, I like simple direct path for music and you need a complex receiver for HT, ect... ect... ect...

I dont mean any offence to you but that's the lunatic fringe over there. Why get a flea amp? It's not like the Tekton speakers are sensitive like AvantGarde.

None taken. In your opinion what do you think is the best amp for the Tekton enzo or the Lore?

Anything that can deliver an unchanged and unaltered signal from the source to the speakers and give you about 100 watts per channel. That should provide you with uncolored sound and plenty of headroom for most listening.

Ok this may be a newbish question and I am a newb but what is a DAC??

So If i get the 2.0 ENZO's then get a two-channel amp like the TBI or a Emotiva, do i still need a DAC ?

I was thinking that I get a two-channel amp like emotiva or the TBI and a pair of enzo's, hook the enzo's to the back of the 2-channel amp then hook the amp to the back of my TV then plug my xbox, bluray player, and my hd cable box to the back of the TV and call it a day...

I kinda wanna stay away from tube amp because it looks funky to me like im a science lab (lol) and I think Eric mentioned he prefers solid state amps.

I heard originallly TBI made stuff for 2.1 desktop computer use.
The best way to be able to filter stuff you have heard is to arm yourself with knowledge. Spend a few hours and read some beginner threads about the basics. Read from a variety of sources : Audioholics, Home Theater Review, Secrets of Home THeater and High Fidelity. Here's a video series by Andrew Robinson that goes over some of the basics.
The Home Cinema Experience

Once you have an understanding of what all the components, your room , etc have in your audio visual experience then start asking questions to people like fuzz, Acurdef, and others. THere are also tonnes of youtube videos on how to eq your sub with Behinger Destroyer, setting up your sub in proper placement, levelling your speakers, etc. Remember that each item you see is just another piece in your toolbox of knowledge. Don't switch major decisions based only on one dude's opinion. In the end if it sounds good to you then you have accomplished your goal.

I think the teacher in me was why I poked a little fun at you. During the school year I see people ask lazy questions all the time and expect others to carry the mail for them. Didn't mean to get you worked up to the point of punching my face in.:eek::eek:

Regardless of all that, what it really comes down to are speakers and the amp in my opinion and your room.

I dont have the space for 5.1, nor can I get the center channel to be aligned straight to my left and right speakers. And HALF of my sources are only recorded in 2.0 as well.

So it really came down to 2.0 speakers for me from the start (as OP suggests) but some comments were made here and there on this thread that have made a difference in my initial set-up choice.

This is NOT a major decision for me.. This is something I look forward to doing in my spare time, as a hobby, and I dont think I am the only one considering the differences between lores, enzos, or going 2.0 or 5.1 as a matter of fact. And for those who will only go 2.0, bass is very important, and so I asked the differences between lores and enzos in terms of bass.

Anyway, because of the questions, we were able to look into interesting threads like "sorround sound" posted by Fuzz, or some acoustic treatment tips also mentioned by Fuzz intinially by suggesting the home theatre set up dvd player, or now a amp called NCore-N400 that gets compared to $10,000 amps.

Fuzz suggested to get a "clean as possible" amp pretty much for the tektons, and I think i just found it. NCore-N400.

The only problem is, I think its like a DIY kind of deal, and I dont want to blow my house up while working on amps...

Anyway, what you said did piss me off, but its all better now, I am NOT your student so you shouldnt take your attitude the same with a stranger that you do not know.

Anyway, good riddance.:D

Hypex NCore-N400? It's getting compared to $10,000 amps..
There's a lot of ways to look at this.

Is it being compared by folks who have discretionary funds to actually be able to afford a 10K amp?
Does it have some killer warranty?
Why does the 10K amp cost what it does? Does it use functionally better components resulting in not only superior measurements but demonstrable ability to drive speakers effortlessly?
Maybe it costs 10K because he has to pay more for everything from resistors, capacitors to circuit boars and the case. There are no economies of scale when you're talking 10K amps so you're literally forced to use some components that have a perceived audiophile pedigree just to try and standout.
Maybe they like the Hypex because it can be modded.

Why not a Bryston or an Odyssey amp with much longer and transferable warranties?

In fact, just what is it that you have at the present time?

The hypex amps are awesome, but are expensive and are totally DIY. If you don't have any experience with electrical circuits and building electrical components then you pretty much have to find someone to build one for you or wait for a pre-built one to come up on the used market.

My statement was a little tongue in cheek because most mid level receivers will deliver 100wpc into 2 channels with low distortion.

With two amps its about $1,100 (one per speaker) with all the cables and power charrgers etc included. A monoblock case some guy is selling for $125.00 (100% aluminum) so everything comes to about $1,300 w/ shipping etc.

One guy said its "very very easy" to build but we all know "easy" is subjective. Anyway, I think they are out of stock ATM and wait time is atleast a month...
