Am I the only one who thinks of DJ-ing when Technics DD turntables are mentioned? They're at least as much of an instrument as a playback device, really.

For sure not, their DJ reputation is second to none. But they have over the years developed their DD technology that will rival the best out there, spec wise, in the industry. The weak point, if you want to call it that, would be the arm. But at the price point to which it resides I would not call it weak. Regardless if you want to go high end there is always the SP-10R to mount your arm of choosing on...........

I do wish they would improve the arms. That has always been the weak link of those TTs.

Back in the day, I used to have a job listing used stuff on eBay, similar to the "Storage Wars" (TV show) backend.
I've listed and sold dozens of SL-1200s for under $100 each.

My TT is actually an MCS (JC Penney) rebrand of the SL1650, but if I listened to more vinyl, I'd be very tempted by a vintage SL1200 or one of the various reissues. They're culturally iconic in a way that very little audio equipment is, other than maybe the Walkman, the original iPod, or the All American 5 radios.

I had an entry level dd Technics back in the late 70s early 80s with a Shure v15 type 4. Sounded great not sure how big of an upgrade my current Rega Planar 3 really is. But I do change the belt every 3 or 4 years and I'm happy with it. POTA to change the cart though,
