Ok i have been reaserching for a long time and i think i have finally narowed down my choices for a 5000$ home theater sound system.

DENON 3806 $1300
SVS PLUS/2 $1200 (i am REALLY looking forward to this)
AXIOM M80 towers $1240
AXIOM VP150 center $385
AXIOM QS8's surrounds $500
AXIOM surround stands $270 (is that alot?)

so this is what i am thinking, any better ideas for the money? any deals on the said hardware? cheaper prices?

Thx any input is great

The towers might be overkill considering the subwoofer you have is a beast. Might be able to knock those down to M22ti. How big is your room? If its fairly large, then the towers would be a better option.

As far as stands go, that doesn't seem bad. Do you need them or can you wall mount?

im still looking at houses, i am going to rent a 4 bedroom when i go to college with 3 of my friends. as for the towers, i will often use this as a 2.1 music system, but if i could save some money could you give me some links? maybe to other companys? i have read quit ia few bad axiom reviews, what is your opinion on axioms? and i want stands for the added flexability.

I've never heard axioms, but according to, everyone, they are generally very accurate, neutral speakers.

Whether or not you perfer that, is up to you. I perfer a warmer speaker (less high mid, more mid bass) and the ones that stole my heart are the Energy Veritas 2.4i's. The only problem is, a pair of these is the same price as your whole budget.

If the room isn't going to be large, the towers are overkill, some bookshelfs would do the trick. Just make sure they match the center.

If I was you, I would get M22ti's and put the left $ over into my subwoofer budget.

I agree with Sheep on the M22's or maybe the M60's. Also keep in mind the M80's are a 4 ohm load and will put extra strain on the Denon. Which is not really designed for 4ohms speakers. It will do it but will not even get close to showing you what those speakers are capable of.

go for the towers. if your receiver is insufficient, you can always add an amp. :) best reason to overbuy is the "what if" feeling you're gonna get after your purchase

He might not have the possibility down the road to add an amp, having to pay for a house and college. Thats why I suggested bookshelfs.

how much is the difference between the towers and bookshelves + stands?

just about half. hmm, i'd still go for the towers. he said he likes 2.1 ... soon, when he feels he is an audiophile already, he's gonna want 2.0 :)

Humm. You might consider buying the $5k HT after college so that it wont get stollen or thrashed during a party. Also, it is not easy moving an SVS Plus/2 when you move every year. In the mean time, get some BIC or Athena floorstanders that will play loud and sound pretty good.
