Symptoms of AV receiver running out of power?

Now wouldn't that be a cool idea for an AH youtube video? Gene and crew should put together a dbt with a couple of different amps/receivers. Get a group of people, make a video of it and upload it to their channel. I know it wouldn't be easy tho, and would be a major pain to set up so I don't know how practical it is, but I'll bet it would get a ton of views.

Then do one for cables. I can think of one brand to start with. Test their "synergy" with different gear...

Yeah! It would be nice to see an expensive speaker cable having a high capacitance with an amplifier which is remarkable for its instability under high capacitance loads.

Of course, the amp wouldn't perform well. Substituting that high capacitance wire with a Blue Jeans or even the very affordable Monoprice wire, the amp would recover its normal clean and neutral performance, just to prove that the expensive high capacitance cable is real BS.

The way it's been explained to me, and makes sense, is that amplification is a very mature technology. The big players all have the same goal of transparency and low distortion output, and have that part of it figured out with most having such ridiculously low distortion numbers the differences are inaudible. Most amps when operated within spec with all else being equal should sound the same. There are some exceptions like tube amps or difficult to drive speakers, but for the most part, in my experience that's been the case.

Here's an interesting article that I like to link of a carefully set up dbt between some high dollar "audiophile grade" gear with fancy cables and an entry level setup using the same speakers with interesting results.

There aren't a lot of examples out there because proper DBTs are a pain to set up and get right, but I'm unaware of any that have had better than chance odds of listeners able to tell one from another.
What do you think of this PS Audio personnel's opinion on blind tests?

Paul Mcgowan from BS Audio is one of the worst examples of snake oil chicanery you could post! lol. The guy makes a fortune off the placebo effect. Of course he's going to deny the science! He actually had a back and forth with Gene in one of his articles. Wasn't a great look, imo...
