When I compared the size of the towers to a smaller version of the water heater, the warning light went on with the GF:eek: .

Then she would have a few lights go off, when you tell it's as big as a stove!

I've got the PB-10 and I love it. I would get the 12 model, but the size is a bit much in my room. As far as what I have the 10" certainly suits my room.

SVS 20-39 cylinder

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

I guess I just wanted to bounce the idea off of a few people to see if anybody had anything bad to say.

A cylinder is not out of the picture but I think their disadvantage is the lack of WAF. I think they look pretty cool. But they are a bit radical looking.

At this point I feel the size advantage, cosmeticly speaking, far out weighs the decreased extension and output.

I'm not sure I'll have much use for the PEQ and room comp, not sure I completely understand what they do, but who knows?

Thanks again.

I'll keep you posted.

Maybe I'll be able to post my set-up without shame.:)

Hello. I just wanted to put my two cents in because I am in the market for a new subwoofer.
I currently have a Definitive 1500 250watt sub. Not bad. But it has been eight years and technology moves on... daily. Hourly maybe.
Anyway I have listened to the Paradigm seismic 12, Definitives super cube 1, and finally I ran into someone who has an SVS 20-39 cylinder. Recently purchased.
I love that sub, and the concept idea of a cylinder design is awesome, practical, and the sound! Tight bass, low bass, big bangs little bangs it all sounds so real true to life and the 20-39 showed no signs of stress.

I do not know what or who will change my mine about that sub. I am probably going to buy this sub.
Probably...... I say that because every year for the last six years my best friend and I go to the Home Theater Show around the country. Every year I buy something that I need or just want to upgrade. Last year I upgraded my Yamaha receiver and purchased the Outlaw 990/7700 amp&processor. So for now I will hold off until the show in JUne. There is no rush.
At this point I can't forsee any sub competing with the 20-39 cylinder and in that price range. (BUT THAT HOME THEATER SHOW DOES THINGS TO PEOPLE)

Another thing that I did know was that SVS is on-line ONLY!! Let me tell you that I have been e-mailing them for two weeks and they have answered every question with just as much concern as if they made the sale.
That goes for the OUTLAWS. Great to deal with. I just wanted you to know what good companies are like online or not. That is if you had any concerns about buying online. I know that I had some hesitation.

Well there. You have my two cents.

email SVS, they will be more than happy to help you with any questions you have.
Only regrets I have about my SVS purchase(25-31PCi) is not having more money to buy a bigger one!

How do you like yours? When I got mine they tuned it to 22hz. This gives me strong bass all the way down to 18-20hz, with 109-115dB of clean output..:) The 22hz option was a no cost option..:)

Hello

My SVS PB12-NSD/2 arrived Friday. Unpacked and did a quick and dirty set up yesterday. So far I am very impressed. This sub seems to have unlimited power and punch (compared to my old KSW-12 )

I connected the sub to my Yammy RX-V2700 and ran the YPAO, After reviewing the results and doing some of my own corrections here are my settings

all speakers set to small
Crossover in Yammy set to 80hz
SVS set in 20 hz mode (one port blocked, filter dial set to 20)
volume/gain during set up at 10 o'clock
volume/gain during use 12 o'clock

the Yamaha set the sub distance at 12 feet even though its only about 3-4 away from the sweet spot (where the ypao mic was) anyone else see this as well? should I adjust it manually to actual distance? The sub is cornered and is at the end of the couch so I am unsure if the couch itself is "blocking" some of the sound waves...is that possible? its in a corner, has about 3" of clearance to the side wall and is just about touching the couch, almost like an endtable would sit...is it to closed in? just a thought...

anyway, I plan to calibrate with an SPL meter in the next few weeks.

I love mine! I have the standard 25Hz tune. I made a lucky find on the B-stock list, so the optional free tuning was not available. However it fills my 3000 cubic foot room with plenty of authority! The pod racer scene from Star Wars Episode I absoultely makes the house shake! :D

Havnt tried that movie yet.

I've done:
Pods emerge scene from WOTW ( rattles dishes upstairs in the kitchen!)
Brontosaurous scene in King Kong
LOTR ROTK mount doom and elephant scenes ( was told to turn it down :) )
Superman Returns when hes lifting the plane and the mini city destruction

and some dance music on Galixie dance chan.

Overall it's been one the best purchases I've made. The first real one, considering all my other gear is crap.

How do you like the Athenas?

Heard those were some great scenes as well!

I love the Athenas! Beautiful sound for a very reasonable price! Since I've purchased them, I've actually started listening to a lot more music than I used to.
Another good movie to test all-around ability on your system is "Miami Vice". The gun shots craaaack with unbelievable authenticity. You can even hear the brass clinking onto the ground! Excellent high/mid-range workout! Your sub will get a good workout with a couple of the explosions as well. Shook the couch in a major way! :D Mann also shot it digitally, so the picture is outstanding! Only gripe with the movie is the voices are often a little muted and hard to hear. I don't think it's a center channel issue, as I had the same problem when I saw it in the theatre! Then again, my girlfriend regularly accuses me of being deaf! :D

Those effects are often caused by unwanted room reflections. Some theaters even skimp and neglect to treat acoustics. On one occasion, I went to a theater with a blown center channel. I complained about the bad sound, and the very young assistant manager had no clue what was going on.......LOL

If your channel levels are set properly, and the 1st reflection points are treated, you'll hear dialog crisply and clearly even when all hell is breaking loose in a scene. I had the same problems, that is..... until I gave myself a room upgrade. You should research room treatments, because it will make a huge impact.

How do you figure out where the first reflection point is? Thanks.
