I am setting up surround sound on a 7.1 receiver, but I only have the 2 front loud speakers, center channel, subwoofer and 2 surround speakers. My surround speakers will be about 10 feet behind the main sitting area. Should I connect the surround speakers to the "surround" connection on the receiver or the "back surround" connection. any replies would be appreciated.

System:
Receiver: Yamaha HTR 5860
DVD:Sony DVP NS70H
TV: Panasonic Plasma 42"
Fronts: cambridge mc 300
Center:mc300
sub:cambridge p500
surround cambridge s300

Sounds like you need to connect to the surround position as they seem to be the left and right surrounds and back surround the rear center, ch 6&7.

Speaker locations

If you have some control over wiring and speaker mounting locations, the "surround" speakers in a 5.1 system should be on the sides of the listening position and slightly above ear level.
