My parents just recently purchased a Samsung 4071 at BB. When I was over at there house I noticed they had been suckered into a $200 Monster HT PowerCenter Surge Protector (along with 3-4 Monster HDMI/coaxil cables).

I may be crazy but IMO Monster is always overpriced and I don't see anything special about the item above.

Any of you have recommendations for a suitable replacement?

On a side note, one positive was they did get a Sony PS3 for $299 as apart of the deal.

I use a belkin with battery backup. I don't need the battery, ecost sent it by mistake:D Anything by belkin will do what that monster center does at 1/4 the cost. I don't endorse ecost or anybody else, but they've always had some good deals on these units from Belkin.

Trip Lite Isobars are also a good product and built like a tank.

I agree. The Belkin PureAV series power consoles are not only very affordable, they look nice as well.

Best Buy does NOT sell the 80 gigabyte Blu Ray PS3

:mad: Only problem is that the PS3 best Buy sells is only the low-end 40 gigabyte model ( normally prices $399). not the 80 gigabyte that provides the superb Blu Ray processing.

Doesn't the 40 gig model provide "suberb blu Ray processing" as well? Was thinking difference was bigger HD and more inputs. :confused:

That's not just a BB issue, just about everywhere is starting to phase out the 80Gb version of the PS3. There are rumors of a new, larger capacity unit that is BC coming later this year, but nothing confirmed in absolute writing. Just about any 80Gb units I have been able to find out there are by luck or they are used/refurbs. You may get lucky and stumble on one at some obscure retailer, you never know. As far as the processing, they are identical between the two units. The only real differences are the extra inputs, larger hard drive, and the BC with PS2 games, other than that, same drives, same processors, same everything.

you are right some differences between 40GB, 80GB, rumor 120GB,160GB

What is the difference between the ps3 40gb from the 80gb?

The 40 gb cannot and will not play PS2 games because it's missing the emotion engine (CPU) and the GPU.

The 80 gb can play most PS2 games via software emulation. It doesn't have the emotion engine, but it does have the PS2's graphic engine.

The 80 gb has 4 USB ports while the 40 gb only has 2 USB ports.

The 80 gb has 3 flash drives (SD, CompactFlash

==============

Apparently, the 80GB version of the console is dead, and is due to be replaced by a 120GB or 160GB model bundled with the Dual Shock 3 controller
