SuperBit on the cheap !

i just watched The Mask of Zorro yesterday on Superbit and i must add that i totally saw a difference, everything was much more clear and i saw very little to none artifacts. good buys for 10 bucks a pop at bestbuy.

Superbit at BB

Thanks for the tip, I picked up 5 titles at BB yesterday for $9.99/ea. They had just about every Superbit title in stock.
 
So, testament to superbit.

While watching Resident Evil last night (Superbit Edition), at the end where she's falling off the table wearing nothing but that white cloth... you can totally pause and see Mila full frontal. Clear as day, as well.

I bought the Snatch superbit waaaay before I even knew what superbit was. I must have a sense for these things. :D

That is one of my favorite movies and having it in DTS is always a plus!

The only thing people may want to be aware of is SBs basically have no features at all. Just the movie, but in the highest quality video they could come up with and a DTS track usually (always?). Some you may not notice much of a difference - The Fifth Element for example, was already a great transfer, so the SB isn't much of an improvement. Dracula was a very noticable improvement to my eyes in terms of video, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is reference quality, IMO.

Snatch is a great movie :)
 
If you want 'extras' with Superbit, look for the second disc. Several SBs have these features in the dual-disc packages, e.g. Punch Drunk Love, Desperado, Mask of Zorro, Snatch, etc.

The DTS is also impressive on many of these SBs. I just listened to the first eight-or-nine minutes of Desperado; extremely well-done!

Thanks for the tip on the cheap SBs, guys. I didn't realize how good they were until I brought home five last night. Today, I went out and bought 18 more. Some are for gifts, but most are for me. I don't buy a lot of DVDs, but these are superior.

I have not seen this movie but looking at the movies that have been released in Superbit do some of the selection done confuse anyone else? Alot of them are good movies but some are somewhat corny... or is it just me?

No, it's not just you. The higher bit rate is important for having a lot of motion; that is, for having a lot of changes from frame to frame, as the DVD format allows for the disc to essentially say to the player, 'the next frame is the same as the last one, except for...', which saves space on the disc. Thus, the SuperBit DVDs are more likely to be action films than other kinds of films. And many action films are, as you say, "somewhat corny", which is probably nicer than what I would tend to say about them. However, some are fun, and a few of the SuperBit titles are actually good films (e.g., Das Boot, Lawrence of Arabia, though Lawrence is split in the wrong place in order to maximize picture quality).

So, to restate: It is not the best films that are apt to be released on SuperBit, but only those that would likely benefit from the added data. Of course, marketing decisions may come into play, as well as the fact that SuperBit is put out by one brand, so some films are not available to them.
 
They finally had the SB cart at my best buy yesterday. I bought Spiderman, Das Boot, and Black Hawk Down. I am anxious to hear how good they sound. The Patriot SB is a good one to pick up! It's nice to be able to buy two of these for the price of one!
 
I bought ten SuperBits a couple weeks ago during the big $9.99 sale. :D

Obviously. :rolleyes: I wouldn't ever be bale to buy that many movies at once. I have to spread them out more inconspiciously. And I think I have a very understanding wife.
 
I already had the SBs that I wanted for sure, but I stopped by BB the other day and had to pick up Heavy Metal (which was definitely impoved in terms of video), The Dark Crystal (which looks pretty much the same), The Patriot and Hook. They didn't have Labyrinth SB or I would have bought that one too. Still thinking about Resident Evil.

I asked the clerk and she said this would be the new pricing until they sold out; it isn't a sale, they are being cleared out.

Been my suspicion... but couldn't get my locals to admit to it.

I figure Sony will phase to the flashier packaging, ala' 5th Element Ultimate, Silverado Deluxe, Closer, Leon, etc.

Must be the Panic Room cover bombed... in the $5 bargain-bins at Wally*World..:D LOL!
