I have not seen this movie but looking at the movies that have been released in Superbit do some of the selection done confuse anyone else? Alot of them are good movies but some are somewhat corny... or is it just me?
No, it's not just you. The higher bit rate is important for having a lot of motion; that is, for having a lot of changes from frame to frame, as the DVD format allows for the disc to essentially say to the player, 'the next frame is the same as the last one, except for...', which saves space on the disc. Thus, the SuperBit DVDs are more likely to be action films than other kinds of films. And many action films are, as you say, "somewhat corny", which is probably nicer than what I would tend to say about them. However, some are fun, and a few of the SuperBit titles are actually good films (e.g.,
Das Boot,
Lawrence of Arabia, though
Lawrence is split in the wrong place in order to maximize picture quality).
So, to restate: It is not the best films that are apt to be released on SuperBit, but only those that would likely benefit from the added data. Of course, marketing decisions may come into play, as well as the fact that SuperBit is put out by one brand, so some films are not available to them.
