I've gotten a recommendation on Sundazed records (that they use original masters and sound nice) and I'm wondering if anybody has experience?

I've got a bunch of Sundazed records, mostly Dylan, Cash, and other musicians from the 50s and 60s. Indeed, I think they sound great! However I should warn you that their remasters keep that old time sound intact; seems like Sundazed always try to remain faithful to the sonic character and balance of the original albums while providing more sonic refinement, clarity, smoothness and openness--no artificial boosting of the bass and treble here.

Thanks for the response. I'm happy to hear that actually - as I just got the Sun Singles Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis. I'm very excited to hear them both.

Sweet! If it wouldn't be too much trouble I'd love to know what you think about the Jerry Lee Lewis records once you hear 'em.

Thanks,
Oliver

I'll send an update after 1st listen. It is the Original Sun Singles set.

If you have other releases you would recommend please let me know. I'm looking to get into some older stuff and am kind of a newb in that realm.

Just about anything on Sundazed is worth checking out in my experience.

On record store day I went to a local shop (Music Millennium) and they gave me these for free!

The best stuff that they've re-issued in my opinion is some of the more obscure psych stuff like West Coast Pop Art Band and 13th Floor Elevators.

Indeed, free is a very good price! Deeds, just curious if you're interested in genres in addition to rock? IMHO the 50s and 60s was something of a golden age for quality focused classical and jazz recordings. Many popular titles have been lovingly remastered and reissued by labels such as Classic Records, Speakers Corner, and Acoustic Sounds. Also, for 60s rock I really love the Rhino labeled Doors box set I bought a while back--super duper sound quality and music!

I truly dig on any genre and would love recommendations.

I listened to the Sundazed Johnny Cas Sun Singles last night and really loved the sound. For the price point - it is absolutely amazing.

I will listen to Jerry Lee Lewis this weekend.

Please send recommendations on 50s and 60s records.

I also just got MFSL Here's Little Richard and have to say that it is one of the most engaging records I've ever heard. The sound is so good that it cannot be described. As somebody who was born in the 70s - it is the closest I have ever come to that era of rock and roll. It puts a huge smile on my face.

If you haven't bought it yet - do yourself a favor and buy it. Absolutely amazing.

Thanks for the Little Richard tip! I'll have to check that out. There are so many good titles from that era/these reissue labels it's hard to make a list of a few recommendations. But I do think there are some essentials I can't live without:

(Classic Records)
-Miles Davis, Kind of Blue
-Rimsky-Korsakov, Scheherazade; Reiner CSO
-Tchaikovsky, Violin Concerto; Heifetz/Reiner CSO
-Duke Ellington, Jazz Party in Stereo

(Speakers Corner)
-Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook
-Brahms, Sonatas for Cello and Piano Nos. 1 & 2; Janos Starker
-Schubert, Trout Quintet; Curzon/Vienna OCtet
-Oliver Nelson, Blues and the Abstract Truth

(Analogue Productions)
-Bill Evans, Waltz for Debby-45 rpm
-Art Pepper, Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section-45rpm
-John Coltrane, A Love Supreme
-Thelonius Monk, The Riverside Tenor Sessions

Let me know what you think.

-Oliver
