Since there are reviews out for it now and it opens Fri, I guess I can talk about this one. Read some of the critics reviews and I'd say they're spot on. I saw it about 2 months ago at the first public screening. I have to say I was REALLY excited for this one and the audience went absolutely nuts when we found out this is what we'd be seeing. It was an unfinished version with some final CG not done yet.

I enjoyed it a lot, however I would not call it a good film even by superhero movie standards. We gave them some pretty harsh feeback I felt. The story was razor thin with the characters carrying the whole thing. It felt far too all over the place and not cohesive, however the characters and their interactions basically made the whole thing anyway. Simply watching the scenes with Joker and Harley Quinn were worth the price of admission alone. Deadshot was also a solid character, with pretty much the rest of the squad AND the antagonists taking a second seat. It felt like they had some really excellent scenes and came up with some ideas to bridge them together so it has issues for sure. There are a couple of good twists and some very fun surprise elements so I still enjoyed it, but story isn't what you're going to go see this for.

Performances: Jared Leto KILLED as the Joker; I mean NAILED it. He was incredible and I liked both Jack's and Heath's Jokers. Jared sort of blended a bit of each of them into one and it totally worked.

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn - again, nailed it. She's great in this role. She and Joker already have their own film...which is where this should have started IMO.

Maybe not opening night, but worth seeing on the big screen IMO. Check brain at the door, eat popcorn.

I mostly agree with your review. I didn't think it was a bad move, but still not on par with the other Super Hero Movies. It fails like so many of the original X-men series films have in the past in having big name actors who hog most of the screen time while the others are left to very minor roles. This was the case for Dead shot and Harley Quinn.

I thought that the Joker was too much "rinse, repeat." Yes he got the laugh down, but he did the same laugh over and over again in this film and He came across "Too Dark" in this movie. I didn't see any of the Nicholason Joker you refered to in your review and he comes across darker than Heath IMO. For some people this may be a good thing, but I think he went "Full Retard" (Tropic Thunder) on the Psyco part and was quite one dimensial.

Beyond the big 3, and a little bit for "Diablo" they others characers were just background and uninteresting. The villians had to much CGI, which was not that great quality IMO.

Harley Quinn, beside looking incredibly HAWT in those little bikinki bottoms, was probably the best part of the movie. She nailed her role perfectly and they did a decent job of giving her a backstory. I also thought that Cara D (Enchantress) did a pretty fair job in her role

IMO, the Joker is supposed to be dark. "Hello, we're bad guys." lol. I didn't think he was any darker than Heath's, in fact Heath's felt a bit more "real" in his darkness. The Nicholson was in the dry, deadpan crazy comments IMO, not in the portrayal. Nicholson had the best mix between funny and psycho IMO. "Where does he get all those wonderful toys?"

I haven't seen the final film, so I don't know what they changed. Sounded like not much. The antagonists were the real let down, but the motivation of the squad was also a big WTH. Even with the "control" method, it didn't feel realistic.

Yes, they're bad guys, but the joker is supposed to have a sense of humor, even if it is sadistic. I just didn't see that in his portrayal. That balance with joker is what makes him batman's most interesting bad guy. In his defence, they really didn't give him much to do.

Having seen both here's my assessment. I enjoyed watching Suicide Squad for what it was. The characters that got the most attention and therefore the most likeable were Harley Quinn and Deadshot. The wrest of the squad (aside from Rick Flag) received far less attention. There are fun moments that make you forget (temporarily) how weak the plot is. Can't fight this feeling that there's a great movie hidden in editing stores.

Leto's Joker had no substance. Nicholson's joker was a deadly gangster turned prankster. He is also a criminal kingpin and a showman. He was in it for laughs, spectacle, and prestige. Ledger's joker could make you laugh and feel terrified at the same time. Menacing but with a twisted sense of humor. You get the impression from Ledger's joker is that he just wants to disrupt the balance of scales for fun. He manipulates people for his enjoyment/entertainment, not for any other personal gain. The two previous Jokers had substance. Leto's is just crazy. They only elude to his manipulative prowess by having the audience told that he's manipulative by a pseudo voice over by Viola Davis (Waller).

I cannot comment on your preference of ladies. They are both damn fine.

Overall I enjoyed this movie more than BVS, which also had its moments. They really are different enough that they can't be fairly compared to be honest.

They gave too little backstory on each character, basically because they had too many. Sort of like watching Avengers and having not seen any of the other movies leading up to it - they even reference things from those films that you're expected to know. So how can you be interested in any of them? They eventually give bits and pieces but it isn't really enough and comes too late. They spent all this time introducing them and getting them out of jail and that sort of dragged things out too long at the beginning - feeling like they ran out of funding or something because they spent all their budget on the top actors and missed out on the story part. This one felt a LOT like they were just trying to show you the characters so they could franchise out spin offs. MEH.

You are supposed to already know Joker's backstory, though they didn't give us a lot to work with in this one still. 4 of us saw it together and all said the same thing that his portrayal was fun.

I read that Independence Day Resurgence suffered, compared to the original, because it lacked Will Smith. And Will missed it because he was doing Suicide Squad. Shame he couldn't have done both.
