I couldn't get though this one. The disjointed plot, such as it was, wooden characters, and the bad acid trip direction were so bad I gave up after a miserable 30-40 minutes.
Wow !!! :D If I hadn't already seen this I think that post might have driven me straight to it.
I might have to watch this again ... it's like family friendly porn. :)

Just watched this last night and thought it was kinda lame. There was not near enough character development, but the eye candy made up for it. The audio and video was really good though.

You must have been thinking of the wrong movie. If you were looking for character development, you went in with the wrong expectation :)

Honestly, I didn't know what the movie was about at all when I started watching it, so I had no expectations. I'm just pointing out my impressions of the movie. It was visually stimulating, not mentally, but that's ok, we all need a break sometimes.

No disagreement there, it was entertaining, not good.

I already saw Sucker Punch twice. Loved it.:D

You guys just don't understand the deep meaning of this movie. :D

This poor girl is trapped, destined to be doomed, so hopeless, like so many people out there. She finds her inner strength and courage and determination. She has all the tools and weapons she needs in her mind. Now she just has to fight.:D

The story is really about Sweet Pea, not Baby Doll, who is just a part of herself - the part that has loss hope. Sweet Pea is the part of her that is hopeful and strong.:D

Deep smart movie.

And I love the soundtrack too. Sounds amazing. Really cool.

Yeah, I picked that up too. Then guess that they were ALL aspects of her coping with what happened, but the movie overall still didn't quite deliver enough to support the story. Visually striking and I liked the soundtrack too, but the sound of the movie (at least on my system) was uneven and a bit disappointing. I'd watch it again :)

I think it's one of those movies where people will actually like it if they already knew what the story was about.

Last weekend, some friends visited and so we watched this movie. Before watching I told them the story and explained some of the symbolism and plot.

1st, the story is about Sweat Pea- the girl that escapes at the end to live a normal life. Baby Doll, Amber, & Blonde are all aspects of Sweat Pea - the same girl. Rocket symbolize the little sister who is killed by the evil stepfather.

I told them madam Gorski symbolize both the psychiatrist Dr. Gorski and Baby Doll's mother. The Wise Man symbolize Baby Doll's biological father.

So everyone seemed to enjoy the movie a lot more.:D

I saw the movie last night, and I kinda wish that I would have read that synopsis first. It would have helped with my ongoing sense of "WTF?!"

It wasn't my lack of understanding that will make me never watch it again - it was the (as I see it) sad and sickening undertone of the whole movie. Come on -
Dude molesting his step daughters, sex slavery? I don't find that entertaining.
That and when Baby Doll
slit the baby dragon's throat
didn't sit well with me. Yeah, I'm a tree hugger. :)

That said, it had some amazingly cool action scenes in it! If it wasn't for the plot, I'd buy that disc.

You guys are nuts. I liked it. I've seen WAY worse so-called action blockbusters, (Transformers anyone?).

Jamie Chung, Samurai with gatling guns, cool music, Carla Gugino, what's not to like?
Just watched this on cable. You thought it was better than Transformers? I'm going to go with 2 thumbs down.
They stole the first fight scene from "Brazil". In fact they pretty much stole the whole concept from Terry Gilliam who made "Brazil".
Sure, the fight scenes were cool, and the CGI was good, but the story and acting were horrible. The whole concept of the movie seemed like some weirdo directors perverted wet dream.

I know you don't mean for that to sound like a ringing endorsement but had I
not seen it already, that remark alone would have made this movie a must see.

Huh? It's been quite a while since I've seen Brazil but where were there gun-toting Samurai in that movie?

Yeah after I posted I went and found that clip on Youtube. Kinda similar I guess, but geez if we chastised every movie for using something that wasn't COMPLETELY original we'd have run out of movies a LONG time ago.

Plus that guy didn't have a gun. :p

I think I am knit-picking because I expected this to be a fun-cool movie and it failed miserably. Yes, I will admit, giant samurai, mechanical Nazi's and dragons vs B-29's is a great theme, but the storyline killed it for me. Even throwing some "The Right Stuff" (Scott Glen) in couldn't save it for me, and I usually love his movies.
