Yeah, But I need the cash. Plus, for an SVS, which is the onlything I would get over the net (don't want anything else) it will cost me doulbe the retail price. Canada is great, but that stupid bored....

When I received my SVS I saw that there were no custom duty charged. However, GST and QST were added. The UPS shipping charge of $58 (included in the purchase price) I found to be reasonable for a 87 lbs carton. However, there is a UPS brokerage fee.

All in all, once you have a SVS sub, your quality of life improves to the point where money becomes a side issue.

Can you give me a park price that it cost you? The pb-12 isd was the one I was looking at.

They had 3 of them, are they already down to 1. I check almost on a daily basis, and may go ahead and snag one of the ISD/2's. Just keep trying to get up the nerve to spend that much. Funny thing is, I actually have the money.....

I just did a quick cal. for the one above, took out some stuff to save, and it was just under a grand CAD. and it might be more.

If anyone from SVS is reading...

GET A CANADIAN DISTRIBUTOR!!!!!!!!!! RAWREERERERERERERERER! poopy

For a grand at local places, I can get 2 energy s10.3's and one is overkill in my room. Take my advice, your profits will DOUBLE. Right now im living with an 8inch energy (E:xl-s8) and soon a custom 10inch subwoofer (getting a new driver for my brothers broken sub). It will do, but, the boy in me screams for the bottom octave.

I 've noticed a lot of discussion of Hsu and SVS compared to velo on the lowish end, but how about higher up? I ask because in the process of listening to speaks for a new HT system at Kief's yesterday, I listened to the Velo HGS line and was pretty damn impressed. How do the the former compare with these 1250 watt "semi-servo" tanks? I mean, these subs are incredibly musical with power to spare . . . does anyone have true comparative experience between this line and upper end SVS or the 12" Hsu?? I'd truly love to hear them side-by-side . . .

BTW OT, I'm utterly in love with Monitor Audio's RS line . . . beautiful speakers with beautiful sound!!

That Mythos Solo looks interesting too. Anyone know how it sounds? It would sure help the acceptance factor.
I'm not sure how I feel about these all in one surround dealios. I'd almost rather just have two high quality speakers on either side of the tv. I've heard the Yamaha YSP-1 however and I'll attest that it actually works. It's so cool, you can stand, facing the rear wall, and actually hear sound coming from that wall as if there were a speaker there. Craziest thing ever.

The Solo seems like it just addresses the left, right, and center. You would still need surrounds and a sub. In my particular case, though, I am having problems finding where to put mains. The current option has my mains *very* far apart, so this seems like an interesting solution.

Oh, and yes, the YSP-1 is also really interesting. My problem there is I have large windows on the left and right with curtains. I am afraid the YSP-1 won't have enough hard wall to do its bounce thing.

Thanks! But honestly I'm not surprised at the 12" Ultra outperforming the 10" Velo HGS . . . many of the things you report hearing "new" with the Ultra are greatly attributable the the deeper extension of a well-designed 12" sub. However, what you experienced does track . . . the HGS are definitely set up to emphasize articulation of music over visceral bass, particularly the 10.

I'm going to ask you to extrapolate . . . do you think the HGS-12X would have been able to "keep up" any better, or is the difference "that" big?

Many thanks again for the info!!!

Actually, much of the detail I hear was not in the infrasonic range, but 30hz-50hz (my sub is crossed over at 60hz). I think that the HGS-12x would still lack some of the detail that I am hearing. I think it would also be lacking in the very low end extension, i.e. below 20hz. The output difference was not even close, (HGS-10 vs. Ultra) which I was expecting. However, it was much more than I thought it would be. I think the HGS-12X would keep up a little better, but still be behind. The guys at SVS compare the PB12-Ultra to the HGS-18, in terms of output and low frequency extension. Like I stated earlier, the detail difference was very impressive. This was like going from a Ferrari F430 to their Formula 1 (F2005) car. What I had was great, but it was that much better. For less money, albeit more space. :)

can we put subwoofers one on top of the other? (curious for those with limited space; and placement problems)

SVS PB10 vs Velodyne CHT12

I was set on getting a PB10 in a few months. However, the $189 JR price on the Velodyne is very tempting. I've never owned a sub before, so I have nothing to compare against.

I'm interested in any opinions on whether it's worth it to spend $429 plus shipping on the PB10 or get the discontinued CHT12 for $189 plus shipping. A pretty big price difference and the reviews on the CHT12 seem to be pretty good. I have a Pio 1015TX receiver with Polk R30 fronts, Polk CS2 center, and Polk R15 surrounds. The sub would be used primarily for movies (over 90% of the time). As you can see from my speakers, I'm not looking for a top of the line setup, but I would like something pretty decent that is a good value. The HT room is not too large, about 14X15 plus or minus a foot either way.

Thanks in advance for any opinions and comments!

I do think the PB-10 will give the CHT-12 a run for it's money, but for that price difference I'd say you'll be safe with the Velo, especially in a room that size. You could almost get two CHT-12s...

Yes, stacking your subs is probably the best way to co-locate them.

Hello, I was supposed to give a review of 2 budget subs that I have. I actually wrote the review (about 500+ words) But when I went to click submit, my internet went down. (lost entire review, I will have to rewrite it when I get a chance)
The 2 subs in question for a decent budget were the JBL E250p, and the H100 Acoustech.
The E250p can be had for about 235.00 shipped, the H100 a little more.

What interested me about your statement was the 90% for movies. This being the case, I also have the 1015tx. For this setup, I highly recommend the H100. I would be willing to bet - It would kill the X-sub as far, as depth goes. However the H100 is not very musical, and does require placement. If you want a sub that needs little placement issues, and is musical then the E250p is great for that.

Anyhow, I could only recommend the H100 for people who would use it for at least 80% movies over music....
