i see a lot of people here who like subs like SVS, HSU, Cadence ...

how do the these brands compare to the velodyne cht12? (of course we compare the cht12's counterparts of these brands: specs and price wise)

SVS and HSU are the most cost effective subs on the market (along with outlaw and a few others). They can accomplish this because they sell factory direct, so there is no third party to jack the price up. Velodyne makes great subs, but will not beat any subs from the aforementioned manufacturers at their respective price points. Another great sub man. is av123. Cadence deals mostly in mobile audio, but they do have some good H/T stuff as well. The x-sub in particular is a great bargain.

Oh yea and I would never buy a velo, just my personal opinion.

I own an svs 25-31pci. I think highly of velodyne but in my opinion the svs was the better value. Mine lists for 550 (got it slightly used for 300.) It easily keeps up with retail subs costing hundreds more....

any reasoning behind this personal opinon?

All the subs mentioned are great, but not everyone can get factory direct subs. I can't, no credict card, and my parents won't boost me that much on theirs. I like Velodyne subwoofers, and am currently looking at one, along with Energy. The subwoofer is the one speaker you have to hear in your room inorder to gauge performance. Thats why its so tricky to recommend anything unless you own it.

I have to disagree with this. You can't truly guage any speaker, subwoofer or whatever, until it's in your room, hooked up to your electronics.

Subwoofer performance changes more then speaker performance when used in different rooms, and locations. It easily changes more then a full range speaker. Obviously they all change, but the subwoofer changes the most.
Electronics usually don't change subwoofer performance, unless you use an external crossover.

I think your claims are without basis. I know what you're talking about, namely bass modes excited due to the subwoofer. However, speakers can sound GREAT in a store and like garbage in your house if you don't have enough treatment in place, or if you're trying to drive Polk LSi speakers with an awesome Kenwood Receiver. Neither one is more important to listen to in your home.

And regarding the original topic of this thread, I don't think you should worry about SVS and Hsu Mike, as they don't distribute to the Philippines.

yes jaxvon, i already decided on the cht, but am wondering how its counterparts in those brands "sound" like. of course i have to edit my first post regarding price wise, it may not have to be really close, just in the same ballpark

I said electronics don't usually change SUBWOOFER performance. I have personal experience listening to a subwoofer in a store, and then in my room, and noticing a large difference, cept it sounded like garage in the store.

Room treatment can fix somethings, but if the speaker is poopy, its going to sound poopy.

I mean I would never pay retail for a velo. If I found a good deal on one then maybe.
One of my buddies had a velo 15" and it sounded like crap when he got his SVS and we did a comparison.

Yeah, But I need the cash. Plus, for an SVS, which is the onlything I would get over the net (don't want anything else) it will cost me doulbe the retail price. Canada is great, but that stupid bored....

Don't kid yourself. The lack of a distributor/sales middleman means an increased profit margin for the manf that is also acting as the dist/sales middleman. Fwiw, Hsu also distributes their subs thru retailers/installers. They can’t sell their product online for less than a retailer, or retailers wouldn’t carry the line. Online sales affords those guys an opportunity to distribute their product without having to deal with the highly competitive structure of audio product distribution. Any suggestion that online necessarily equates to less expensive would be misleading.

To put the cost of a high-quality subwfr into perspective, I bought a VMPS 215 w/the upgraded driver, 15-inch subwfr + 15-in passive radiator, MSRP $650. Also available is an optional 500w @ 8ohms, class A/B plate-amp for an add’l $350-$400, compared to a common, el-cheapo Indigo Tech (Bash) class G plate-amp that you find stuffed into many subwfrs. Those Bash plate-amps retail around $200/375w @ 8ohms.
