Subwoofer Decisions, money burning hole in my pocket!

Hello everyone, long time reader and forgot all about having an actual login here to ask questions directly but I would appreciate any feedback. Here is my setup. Right now I have JBL Studio 235c Center, and JBL 230 (pair) for L,R. My left and right rears are wall mounted Monoprice speakers (unsure model) and are about 2' behind and to sides of main listening positions.My sub-woofer is a single Klipsch SW350. I just upgraded to a Denon X2500H receiver. I think you all can see my weak point. So now I am looking to burn some more money. My initial thoughts were Atmos ceiling speakers but I feel like a sub-woofer upgrade would be more beneficial in my living room. The room is app. 20' x 25' open floor plan type with 10' ceilings where living, kitchen and dining are all in one however listening positions are all located within about 12' of the corner the sub-woofer is located in. Whats your thoughts? My budget is around $500 possibly up to $600 if its a amazing deal or what not. I was considering the SVS PB-1000 or HSU VTF-1 MRK3. When I look at the overall dimensions of the SVS compared to my current its .... confusing? ... how the SVS sub which is only slightly larger then my current sub would be that much better. At the higher side of the range I was considering the HSU VTF-2 MRK 5. Please let me know if I am missing a brand / model or any other recommendations you might have for me regarding the system. My only issue with the VTF-2 MRK 5 may be the WAF and her shooting me when she gets home to see it.. Cheers!

The hsu vtf2 is probably the best bang for the buck in terms of all around quality.
Just do it, lock up all the guns in the gun safe and change the combination so you don't get shot.
Then sit down and enjoy a movie with great bass and see how her tune changes.

Personally I'd think more about two of the VTF2 mk5s but wouldn't want to see your wife hurt you or doubling your budget The diameter of the driver is only part of the story with a sub (altho generally the more air it can move the better), the motor counts, too.

I’m a fan of better/bigger subs and Atmos. I think you should consider both, but do the sub/s first. The VTF3 is easily worth the 799 but I just saw the other day they were doin the MK2 for 849. I know that’s above what you said initially, but quality bass is an investment. I’d buy one mk2 and start saving for the second right away. This is not considering your waf though so... the big problem is the size of the room. I don’t know if they’re is one sub that could handle that room at 600 bucks. That’s a tall order. The Dayton sub1500 is only 200 bucks. You could get three of them and have potentially smoother response for 600. Or four sub1200 for the same price which I think might be the better bargain. However, it is my opinion that those Dayton’s, as good as they are qualify for the “for the price” category. For that money they’re probably the best thing going, but if you want better extension, more linear bass and higher output potential, I’d still try and steer you towards the “shoes” or Rythmik etc. Maybe start by selling one of these to the waf dept.

Well I spoke with the wife and she may be on board for dual smaller subs, aka not two vtf 2 but possibly 2 svs pb1000. But if not I'm thinking just the one vtf2. I never looked into Dayton subs I'll research them a bit.

The Dayton subs are probably the biggest bang/quality for the money. I am running two Dayton 12" subs and they are excellent (in my opinion).

The RSL speedwoofer is only 400 a piece and gets good reviews. The RSL and SVS both have 10” drivers so I’m not sure which one is more powerful. That’s a very big space for 10”drivers to handle. Maybe close placement could help some.

Ya I'm a bit limited on placement at sub(s) can only go to the right and left of the television on the same wall app. 7 ft off center of the television. If I can stretch my budget to the 600ish realm I may get that VTF2 but a friend just told me about the monoprice 10 and 12 subs, I just have a hard time placing that kind of dollar value on a monoprice branded product. Anyone have any experience with them particularly especially concerning customer service?

Those monolith by monoprice subs are no joke. I’ve not heard one personality but have seen nothing but great reviews about them. That being said I have read that a few people have had the amp go out and they had to send the whole sub in for replacement whereas other companies let the owner just replace the amps. This is something to think about because it’s quiet a chore to box up a big heavy subwoofer. I’m sure they have very few failures but it’s something to think about.

If she can handle dual PB1000s I'd think you should take that opportunity while she still feels that way (and hopefully doesn't change her mind somewhat when she sees two installed).

It may have helped my delivery of the news. Was kinda a "it's either one larger one or I will Have to get two smaller ones... Your choice." I just had to lead the witness is all!

I’m going to mock up some cardboard fv18’s to help ease into my sales pitch. I should do the 25’s first, then when she sees the 18’s it won’t sting as bad. My cylinders are 40” so the reduced height might help too.
