My room measurements are 13 x 29 x 9. I have 5 Paradigm: 2 monitor bookshelves, 1 center, and 2 atoms. Which sub would you choose? Is a 10" sub sufficient for this room size?

Your best bet is to ask the professionals at SVS, and HSU. I would say no those subs will not be sufficient for that room. That is a lot of volume to fill.

The VTF-1 can't compete with the PB-10. You'd need to step up to the VTF-2 to get a closer comparison. That is a large room, I'd probably be looking at a 12" sub (which the VTF-2 is).

It's interesting that the SVS PB-10 has 300 watts power vs. HSU VTF-2 MK-3 12" has 250 watts power. Should I go with more watts or larger sub?

There are a lot of things that contribute to a subwoofers performance. So just because a subwoofers amp has more watts doesn't make it better. Just because the subwoofers driver is larger doesn't make it better.

A combination of all things, amp, driver, cabinet, crossover, ports, and size, will contribute to the overall performance of a subwoofer.

Look at the Definitive Technology Supercube 1.

The Supercubes dimensions 14-1/4" W x 14-1/4" D x 14-1/10" H. It had a 1500 watt amplifier. And has a 10" driver. $1200

Then look at the SVS SB12-Plus

Very close to the same size of the Def Tech (15” deep x 14" wide x 14 " high). But only has a 425 watt amplifier, But has a larger 12" driver. $699

Final pairing question: Which one of the two is better for 65% movies and 35% music: The SVS PB12 NSD or The HSU VTF-2 MK3? Both 12". HSU is $100 cheaper.

You have a very large room. I have the top of the line Hsu, and have owned the following subs:

M&K MX-200 - In Use
Infinity PS-12 - Gave To friend as X-mas Present
Velodyne 8" MicroVee 1000 watt sealed. Returned to CC
Hsu Research VTF-3 HO Turbo - Used all day and night in Man Cave v2 (my bedroom system in sig)

I recommend the Hsu Research VTF-3 MK3 10% off right now. Buy the Turbo for exceptional DEEP BASS!! The subs are also very musical.

Good Luck!

I think the PB-12 and the VTF-2 Mk3 are going to be too close to call, so I'd lean toward the less expensive one.

I owned the PB-10 and original VTF-2 (10") and both were excellent subs.

Does anyone know if the PB12 or the VTF-2 is more musical than the other one; or, is it a coin toss?
