Those no subs suck. Can't hear them. Vooooooodoooooo, rules. I saw that concert too Buck. Too much reverb though, that stadium rocked.
There was a ton of reverb. Like a big fishbowl. I was on the field, around the 50 yard line. I was hammered. That's a great cd.

lets get back on topic folks

I have an Energy E:xl-s8, whoa, thats a mouthful. I will soon be replacing it with an Energy s12.3. My room is 16 by 12, with concrete floors so the bass its pretty good. Obviously, I have an 8inch subwoofer. It seems to blend nicely with my mains, and it's only being replaced because of a "want" not a "need".

I know where your coming from Mule, but im not just talking about SV subwoofers, im talking about all of them. The velodyne digital drive series and 1812 are very musical, and go real low, and cleanly too. So, thats a subwoofer that is good in both music and movies. The tunable SVS products will also serve movies and music better then a single ported counter-part.

Your lucky I went and saw 40 year old virgin, gave you a break :p

Sheep,

The Athena subs look very similar to the Energy subs. Do they compare?

The anthena's are similar in amp, and even that is different. The 10inch anthena is using the 8inch energy's amp. The 12 using the 10's. The s12.3 has 300rms, 1200peak. The boxes are different, and so are the drivers. I think the energy's would take the cake, I've heard the 8, 10, and 12inch version and it really huals. My brother might get the s10.3, and im going for the s12.3. The energy's are also rated to go lower then the anthenas. Maybe today I will listen to the anthens and tell you what I think as far as comparison goes.

ThinkingHT,

This from an ordinary user (limited expertise) of a PB-12 ISD (the 78 lbs box)
[/IMG]

I listen more to music than HT and find my sub a delight in each case. If I had a PB-12 ISD/V, I would have little use to block a port anyway. Being in Canada, I had to pay a currency exchange rate but it was well worth it. As an ordinary user, I have good but average quality Front Towers and Center speaker. One of the so-called expert in this thread prefers high end full range Front speakers and speaks of a crossover of 40 Hz to transfer frequencies to the sub. This guy can hardly position himself in your setup since he has an acute tunnel vision of what a sound system should be. So beware.

Ah finally! Back on track :)

Thanks for that post, and for pulling this thread back on track. I have now decided to take the Servo 15 out of the equation and the $1000+ saved will go into a better receiver or dvd player. Now all I have to do now is decide between the PW2200 and SVS PB12+ :(. After following this thread the answer doesn't seem so clearcut. At the end of the day I might just flip a coin and decide.

I have the PB12+2 and it is absolutely outstanding. No complaints whatsoever. The house rocks and rattles when playing DVDs and music is excellent. There is a lot of theory talk in here about response times, frequency ranges and so forth but unless you ears are finely tuned to hear these nuances between music and HT, I doubt you can tell the difference. I couldn't imagine how much better an ultra would perform over the plus. Do you have a wife? In the end you have to meet the Wife Approval Factor (WAF). I traded up from a KSW-12 sub to the PB12+2 so I went from a relatively small box to a big box. At first my wife complained but now she doesn't even notice it. Of course my sub is in a corner of the room partially hidden by a sofa and a main floor standing speaker, so that helps. The only other sub I would consider if I were looking for a sub would probably be the HSU VTF-3.

Good luck on your decision.

Phil

.....MFabian, first of all, your room, your eagle couch, and sub look great....secondly, my subs are currently cut at about 75 hz and I can't see them ever being cut at less than 50 hz and probably about 60 hz....I plan to implement some additional low end equipment for my mains, and hope for the additional equipment to add additional voice on top of my subs....I have requested for anyone to please help me establish what the acceptable top range of the Cadence X-sub might be, and so far have come up short....and I must add, I have been misquoted in certain applications....thanks, MFabian, for expressing advice to help ThinkingHT in his quest....ThinkingHT, it sounds like you are making quality decisions, and if you'll notice, I have made efforts to unclutter this thread.......

Don't discount the HSU VTF3. IMO, that's as close as anyone has come to a nice all around sub for music and HT for a reasonable price.

If you need more later, you can always buy another one :D ;)
