All-

New to these forums, but have been involved with forums like these before...and people in here can typically answer the questions that trouble us mere mortals in a matter if 17 seconds. SO - I am anxious to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Here is my set up...fairly humble compared to what many of you have I am sure, but here we go.

Onkyo 685 receiver

Klipsch Quintet IIs with the Rw-8 sub.

Panasonic 50" plasma

We recently moved into a new house (IN to NC) and am running into a problem where I cannot get the RW-8 to STOP giving distortion. The punchier bass come through OK, but on some of the "middle bass" it only rumbles/comes through distorted, not the full bass sound like it should. I know that "distortion" is a lousy adjective, but when we are watching TV or HD-DVD the sub has the sound that is similar to a "partial response" to what it should be playing. All the other separation in the other channels is just fine. When I adjust the dial on the right side of the sub (not sure what you call it or actually what it does) and also when I adjust the cross over, etc no real difference.

Here are my thoughts...I have simply missed something somewhere in the set up and it needs to be adjusted such-and-so. OR the sub was possibly damaged in the move. OR some other reason that I cannot think of right now.

What can I do to better descibe the issue? What else can I do to possibly fix the issue?

Looking forward to your help and suggestions on this matter.

Just a guess, but I wonder if your sub's level is too high in your receiver, or the gain is too high on your sub?

I have 10 bucks saying that the sub is now on a hardwood surface and it was on carpet befor-or- the room is twice the size as before.

You moved. Is it possible it was damaged in the process?
To detect low frequency distortion you need a lot of it.
How loud were you playing the sub?

OK - I THINK that it has been damaged. I am in the process of filing a claim with my company - that should be no problem.

SO - if it is and I replace it...should I replace the whole shotting match OR just the sub. The speakers are good speakers (IMHO) and sure I would like something that would be new, but no need if they are all matched and sound good and look good and the wife is happy.

Give me your suggestions on what to replace the sub with AND also what to replace the whole speakers with (5.1 - wall mounted) if I go that route.

Thank you for your help.

To answer your previous questions:
It is not on hardwood
The room is almost the exact same size as before
(although the receiver is new so everything has been reset)
I checked the "gain" which is (I'm assuming the "volume" of that partivular channel) has been set from everythign from -2 to +6 and it stays the same.

Does anyone know what that dial is on the side of the sub? Is that technically a "volume" control for the sub channel?

Many thanks-
Sproles
