I'm not a Trekkie, not by a long shot. But, I did like the the original series with Spock, Kirk and McCoy, there was a "rough around the edges" quality that has not been duplicated. I recently began to watch Enterprise on the Sci-Fi channel for the first time and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well written and acted this series is. I did see some of the New Generation back in the late 80's , but to be frank it was stiffly-acted at times, too politically correct, the inside of the ship looked more like a corporate office than a spaceship, all the 80's New Age crap had somehow been written into the scripts. The irreverant, womanizing (by today's standards a saint) Kirk was replaced by an aging Frenchman with an English accent who didn't like his daddy nor kids, the old trinity of Spock, McCoy and Kirk was replaced by a woman shrink and a yes man who went out of his way to say he wasn't a yes man. I always thought that the Kirk persona was split into three with The New Generation, the old guy represented logic, the shrink was the wisdom and insight and the yes-man was the "crude" part of Kirk (skirt chasing swashbuckler.) But I find Enterprise refreshing, the picture quality and effects are very good and the story line keeps you interested. Funny I was never interested in Star Trek after the 80's series, but Enterprise has piqued my interest all over again.

I'm not a trekkie either, but if I've got nothing to do and Star Trek is on, I'll watch it. When Sci Fi started showing Enterprise on Mondays in January I started DVR'ing it because I had seen bits before and was always curious about it.

I've been keeping up with it and have seen all of it that they've shown so far (except for the first four episodes) and I feel the same as you. It's a lot more "real" to me, which is why it probably didn't go over well with trekkies. At the same time it didn't make it with most non-trekkies because they still see it as Star Trek and that's some voodoo or something.

Loved the original, watch a little but never got into TNG, can't stand Voyager and just can't really get into Enterprise.
But I really got into the DS9 series. Not a lot of fans liked that series, but it had appeal to me. The whole war with the Dominion got me hooked. There was more involvement with the major races (Bajoran, Klingon, Ferengi, Cardassian, etc.). I just thought it had more action than the other series.

I wish there would have been more of the Borg wars in the TNG series instead of the "ST: First Contact" movie.

Kirk was the coolest without a doubt,he was an equal opportunity w#ore monger,he even did a green woman, & liked it too:D:D

I was always in between on Star Trek TNG,i could take it or leave it,same thing with Voyager, what i did really like & recently started watching online is episodes of both that were centered around the Borg, they dont care who you are,its Irrelevant, the Borg are kicking your a$$ so prepare to be assimilated.

Yup,the Borg are my all time favorite race on any Star Trek, that girl who played 7 of 9 was roasting hot, even dressed up as a Borg, plus i liked the was everybody s#!t their pants when a Borg cube would appear, then they got the speech from the Borg.Prepare to be assimilated.

There are a few episodes of Voyager that feature the Borg, here's a good one,its where they first meet 7 of 9 when she was still Borg.

I've been a Trekkie for as long as I can remember. LOVED the original series. I also really liked TNG. I never really got into DS 9 or Voyager, though I will watch them if they're on.

I could never really get into Enterprise. Although I do find Jolene Blaylock and Hoshi smokin' hot!!! I thought Scott Bakula was TERRIBLE as the captian. It did have it's moments though.

That guy from Reanimator must be a major Trekkie. He played "We-yun" sp? on DS 9 and an Andorian on Enterprise.

Anybody else watch the cartoon?

Scott Bakula looks like his beagle, not as womanizing as Kirk, but to be fair, these guys don't know how to operate the ship 100% so you gotta give them credit, I mean he's learning to put the damn thimg in reverse, who's got time for chicks, even green ones at that;)

Kirk would tap ANYTHING!

But every seven years Spock had to get his groove on or he'd kill somebody

hee, hee. So true.

I'm just glad that they never had Kirk and Spock trapped on a planet together when Spock was in the zone. As you say, Kirk was game for anything...

(Disclaimer: "Not that there's anything wrong with that.")

agree with highfihoney. 7 of 9 (Jeri Ryan) single handedly brought the failing Voyager series to life. I skipped the first 4 seasons, but when Jeri Ryan came on, I had to watch BOTH the seasons she was on and the seasons without! (she came on the last episode of season 3 btw)

you know what was wrong with Enterprise? they took an ultra pretty and sexy model and cut her hair into this short stupid vulcan haircut and actually made her ugly.

Ok here is my opinion on this subject:

The Original Series:
It was cool, and innovative and the characters were classic, but many of the episodes don't stand the test of time. Too much hippie stuff ruined many of the episodes. The movies were great, most notably STII, IV, and VI

Next Generation:
The characters grew on you, it had its moments, most notably with the Borg and Q, but it was too touchy feely and politically correct. Most of the episodes were a bore, but the movies were enjoyable, most notably First Contact.

Deep Space Nine:
Now this was a great show. It started out slow but really picked up momentum with the introduction of the Dominion and Worf. The characters were great and the stupid episodes were kept to a minimum, with the exception of the religion ones most of which were stupid, especially the towards the end of the final show.

Voyager:
Started off good, but didn't really pick up until 7 of 9 was introduced. The Borg episodes were stellar and Janeway was great. The final episode was really cool but seemed to end too soon. Overal this ties a close second to DS9 as being the best Star Trek series, IMO.

Enterprise
The first season was nearly unwatchable due to bad acting and poor scripting. Season 2 got better and Season 3 was the BEST, infact it was one of the best seasons of any Star Trek Show IMO. Season 4 was a half abortion due to budget cuts and show cancellations. It had one of the worst final episodes of any shows in TV history IMO. The plot fell apart, cameos of Riker and Troy were missplaced and it was just pure cheese and killing the shows best character (Trip) was a huge mistake. Enterprise shouldn't have been canceled, but fans didn't support it until they heard Paramount was pulling the plug.

Well thats my take on the different Star Trek series and here is hoping for a new show in the new feature.

Gotta disagree with you on that one. Stupid haircut and all, Blaylock was still smokin'. Must have been cold aboard the Enterprise, cuz she was pokin' half the time. ;)

Anyone else been to the Experience in Vegas? I went once years ago. Kinda cool. I still can't figure out how they "transported" you on to the Enterprise.

I haven't been since they changed it to a Borg attack.

Yeah I agree with you its hard to make puffy lips look bad even with the Super Cuts hairdo.

TNG was ok, like Gene said too touchy, feely. They emasculated "The Kirk" persona. It turned me off to all ST series, till I just discovered Enterprise, ignorance is bliss.

With better special effects. :p

Yep, I watched em’ all, never got into the original series as much as the subsequent series, but especially liked Voyager and DS9. And it amuses me now, thinking back on it, that because Patrick Stuart is so unavoidably English, by the end of TNG’s run, the producers and writers ignored that Stuarts character was French.

Yep, hotness covers a multitude of sins; bad hair cut? Worst Vulcan ever? Who cares! She’s HOT! :D
