Splicing Speaker Cable???

I am about to move my HT to another room. My surround speaker cables will not be long enough for the new room. Is there a problem with splicing speaker wire? I currently have 12ga (bought from bluejeans.com) and I will be about 10' short on each run. I would really like to just buy an additional 20' instead of buying +/-80' and scraping my current cable. Let me know what you think.

It's ok to splice speaker wire together, just make sure the connection is solid to avoid separating them if you ever pull on them.

You can do the twist tightly and wrap with electrical tape method or use butt splices. Shrink wrap tubing around the splice would be nice to ensure it doesn't come apart easily.

I use electrical caps when I have to splice speaker wires...

It works great, holds stuff together. I typically tape the wires after they are capped to ensure zero chance of separation.
