It's not all that great.

I actually had a ****ty day today. We discovered a sub driver with a rotted surround that had blown and nealing down in all that dust and mouse droppings is not fun. Especially trying to mount an 18 driver which ways about 30 lbs is not fun in the tight confines of a baffle wall.

Have you tried for projection a position at Famous Players. I guy like you with a good attitude could learn the basics quick. Might be a good college job.
No I have not.... Hmmmm.

I work at best buy right now, and its all I never expected. No comission + stereo equipment = I get stuck in the small LCD department and have to be a monster-psp pushy ***...

Before Lansing (JBL) was part of the Altec\Lansing name, it was the work of GE and Altec that initally supplied most of the horn loaded systems in the movie theaters and recording studios.

Not sure what percentage of theaters or studios use them now but maybe someone can update me.

You are correct in that Altec was the major player in the cinema industry. You can still find there speakers being used in older sites that may not have been upgraded. The problem with these is the horn has very poor midrange and top end clarity. Mainly due to its multi cellular horn. They are also unable to handle digital soundtracks and the HF drivers blow easy.

However they have become collectors items to alot of people especially if there in good condition. A small service company out here buy's these from theatres that are upgrading or closing and sell's them to the Japanese. Who apparently love them. Especially when used with tubes.

When I upgraded my home theater, I could not find any speakers that would timbre match the Altec Valencias I now have so I moved them to the bedroom upstairs.

They were made somewhere around 1965 and are the studio monitor design with solid walnut cabinets. You can see a photo or two of them in my gallery "His and Her Room" if you are interested. I grew up listening to these speakers using one of the first tube receivers made by Harman Kardon.;)
