Speaker cancels opposite speaker

Hi,
I have a panasonic home theater in a box that I bought used (i know),
each front speaker works seperately but never when both are
connected. Also when both are connected and i power on the system i hear a
big basey "wowww" sound from the speaker that wont work. By the way when they are both connected one works fine and the other has a verrrry weak signal. I have used different subwoofers and interchanged the speakers and wires and have ruled out any of those as the problem. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Also the headphone jack wont work when both
Speakers are connected, weird. Thanks!

Offhand, it sounds like it's either hooked up incorrectly or broken.

Since you've chosen to not share with us know which of the thousands of Panasonic HTIB's you have, that' about all I can offer.

That's kinda like saying "My Chevy is broken and makes a funny noise. What's the problem?"

Sorry, it is a panasonic sa-ht15 pc-s surround sound system only, no dvd or cd drive

OK, that gives us something to work on.

Odds are it's miswired. Here's why I say that. First off, here's a link to your manual. You might want to check it out carefully if you haven't already.

You have a fairly unique situation in where it's brains are in one unit and it's muscle is in the subwoofer. Both are connected by a propriatary cable. If you ever lose or damage that, you're probably screwed.

The crux of the matter is that you can use ONLY the subwoofer that came with this system. It CANNOT be replaces with a differet subwoofer.

So, I'll assume you have that propritary cable and the subwoofer that came with the unit.

To start with, I'd unhook all the speaker wires from the subwoofer and then, very carefully, reconnect them and reference the owners manual if needed.

Remember, each speaker wire has a matching pair (illustraion shows black/white) and they must be plugged into the same matching connections for the same speakers on the subwoofer. If you put the speaker wires in the wrong holes on the subwoofer, anything could happen.

Once you've done that and you're positive that they are correct, and the unit still does that weird shiite, then there's a problem with the unit and service will be required.

Still, my $$ are on a miswire. It's an easy mistake to make, particularly for a newbie.

Wow! I'll be honest when you suggested to check cables and wires i was a little bummed
because i have tried that somewhat before but I did again anyway and low and behold one of the proprietary (sp?) cable prongs was bent. For two years almost I've been dealing with this problem. I have actually taken it in for servicing and the technician said to leave cables and speakers home. When I saw the bent prong i was super hopeful and angry at myself for not checking that cable end. So, i fixed the prong and it works now!
Thank you soooooooo much. Thank u thank u thank u!

Welcome :)
While I didn't help you, glad that MarkW was able to solve your dilemma. Yes, this is a great place to hang out for audio.
