There are many threads here that have some great looking banana plugs of which I have used Cobalt Cable's locking plugs. But with my new speakers I want to change to lugs so the cable angle is not so severe. I'm looking at these from Cobalt but am also looking for suggestions to others you have used and like. While looks are somewhat important, they will be visible, I don't want to spend a lot of money on them. Suggestions and links please!

Personally, I don't like spade connectors. I use the basic bananas from Parts Express #091-330. The nice thing about them is the wire enters through the side so the wire hangs down with pretty much no strain.

If you'd like, I can send you these.
Thanks but I already have banana plugs and am looking for some lugs. I prefer bananas as well, especially with grape nuts cereal, but I don't like the sharp angle the speaker cable has hanging high up on my new speakers so I'm switching to lugs. Anyone have some links to good lugs?

Thanks

Have you checked parts express? Your keeping the bananas for the receiver end, and lugs for speaker end, correct? I think WBT makes spade lugs. Could be $$$'y though.

good one :D

WBT makes good stuff, but they aren't exactly what I'd call inexpensive for spades. Check e-bay if you're going to look at those.

Buckle, those are almost exactly the ones I use. The only difference is the tip. With the side exit, you don't have to worry about the angle of the wires exiting, because they exit down from the connector no matter what.

Which ones are those? After thinking more about your earlier suggestion with the cables hanging straight down from the side of those bananas maybe that would work. Got a link?

Can't link to Parts Express anymore because they abused their priveledges here, but you can go to Parts Express .com and look up 091-330.

It depends on your speaker cable

I am using 12 Ga. Belden 5000UE which has 18 very thick solid conductors, not the fine wire used in Sound King and many others. I tried the screw-base and also the screw-lock types and neither would hold my cable tightly no matter how much I tightened it. I ended up using these Monster "Quick Lock" (I know I know!) lugs where you insert the wire up in the base and then "fan" out the conductors over the post you threaded it to; no tools required. I hate Monster as much as the next guy but this is their one product that I really like and I have looked but have not been able to find this design from any other company. This is a very well designed lug that makes contact with all surfaces on each of the 18 conductors in my cable and is so strong I can lift up floorstanders up with it. They are not cheap, about $5 each, but I found them to be well worth the price for the type of cable I am using. Their Spade Lugs are also angled so you cable does not come out at a right angle from the speaker.

Here is a link, does not show how the cable connects up through the middle post but it does gives you an idea of their size & build quality:

I got a 2 sets of the banana version of guys free. They are pretty decent actually. They'd be better if they didn't cost $20 for one set of 4 (for one wire pair, both ends).

I ordered these today. Man the shipping was more than the banana plugs. I think the side entry will work well for what I need so I shifted back to bananas as they taste better than s lugs.
