I just got comment-less pos rep which I hate but will take because I'm a point whore but to leave neg rep for somebody I believe you have to leave a comment. Not that I need to find out. I would like to return the favor you mischievous prick. :D
Could have been me man. I leave rep quite often, just hate commenting. Especially when it's late and I've been at the bar all night ;);)

What type of work do you/did you do?
Construction Rat/Union Carpenter/Drywaller.
It has been a prolonged lay off but it's par for the course.
I bet that he makes the ritual transition to Ninja by Monday. :)
I am so going to resist the transition. I'm going to ask admin to permanently make my title ... Resident ... ??? ... maybe just Resident. :)

You should at least leave your name.
It makes it seem less like a one night stand that way. :D

Seriously, I have no life.
Hey guys,

Never got any opinions on this, so here goes again...

I'm looking to Bi-Wire my 802's, so the question is, should I buy their Quad strand 14 gauge and have it made into a bi-wire.

or....

should I purchase either 12 gauge or 10 gauge cables and make 2 runs from my Amp? One run with spades on the Amp end and the other with bananas?

I have room for both and while one wire would be optimum, SQ is more important to me than having one wire.

Please let me know what you think my best option is....

BTW, who ever is leaving negative feedback for Alex, get off of this forum... The guy is an Audioholic Samurai!!!!
How much wire is needed depends on what's going through it and unless someone is passing a lot of voltage and current, 16ga is actually fine for most runs when the equipment is in the same room as the speakers and the room isn't huge. 14ga has twice as much cross-sectional area as 16ga (this is the case when going from any wire gauge to the next larger size) and that allows it to conduct more current without causing excessive heat, which causes voltage drop. That 4 conductor 14ga, doubles to one set of terminals is equal to 2 conductor 12ga but when you have individually insulated conductors, capacitance rises. Not much, but it does rise. I really don't think you'll really benefit from using 12/10ga to bi-wire vs 14/14ga.

This rise in capacitance is noticeable in under 10ft runs?

speaker wire.

some say speaker wire companies are the equal of snake oil salesmen.

a lot of it is phycological hey i spent $1000 for these cables they must make my speakers sound better. it is like golf 70% of the game is mental.

i have high end audioquest & diy cables running to the same speakers & i can't tell a difference.

aim really in into spending money on acoustic treatments as i feel thats the best bang for your buck. i really notice a difference!!

but in regards to your question call or e-mail B&W they sent me a chart with distance & the gauge wire recommended.

my sugestion would be buy good wire & look at your rooms acoustics.

also speaker position is really important. go to cardas.com & learn about the golden cubiod!

Ok guys,

I'm thinking of ordering some new speaker wire, just for the front three. I'll probably buy some mch analog interconnects (7).

I don't want to think about this again! lol, but I'm really quite afraid that any wire I buy is going to be TOO thick to fit in the posts.

All the HT speakers are connected with bare wire, and that's at the amp too.

Using 16 gauge. What gauge do you guys recommend? I think the longest run between the front three will be close to 30 ft. NAD T973 to PSB T55.

Thanks

Do your posts accept banana plugs? If so, that's what I'd suggest considering. They work great for me, and they are so easy to connect and disconnect.

I haven't found a site that I like better than this one for speaker wire gauge selection. There is a handy table of gauge version distance and speaker impedance.

Cant forget your speaker holders..

It amazes me more how people do not question these products, people really need to read more.

Man, some of you guys got me guessing on my 16 gauge. It was simply the thickest they had when I was in home depot.

Maybe I'll buy some BJ 12 gauge for kicks. Im thinking runs of 15-30 ft, speakers that do drop to 4 ohms or less.

I just don't like spending good money on speaker wire. But maybe I need to step up on the gauge.

Please feel free to talk me out of it! I thought the last time I perused roger russell's chart, that I'd be fine, more or less . . .

ciao

Yeah, in my other post in this thread, I already mentioned that site. The RR chart is exactly why I thought I'm probably fine.

sigh.

Im not a big fan of banana plugs, because they don't seem* to be as secure as bare wire. And nothing beats bare wire, or is cheaper, but there is the pain of stripping for new wire every now and then.

meh.

Ahh, sorry. I haven't read the whole thread.

You could get some of those locking banana plugs. I don't have them because my regular plugs fit plenty snug in my binding posts, but others here seem to prefer the locking ones.
