Source for RF DE-Modulator?

I'm looking for simple box that will give me a coaxial-in (Cable TV) port and split the signal to output Left Audio, Right Audio and Composite Video (usually white, red and yellow RCA plugs).

Radio Shack used to sell these for, like, 20 bucks. Now I can't find any at any store.

Anyone know where I can find one of these? Had a Radio Shack model from years ago, but it finally died ...

I know this can be done through an old VCR, but I'm not looking for the tuner section, plus would rather have a smaller box in this cramped space.

I'm trying to take the coaxial cable TV signal and deliver the audio to an old stereo receiver and the video only to a TV. Come to think if it, I'll probably have to use Coax out from such a box to use the TV's tuner? Then I'll just keep the TV on mute.

Actually, a tuner is EXACTLY what you're looking for. Assuming no tuner is involved, how would it know what channel you want to watch? Like it or not, but that's what that "simple box" is called.

Let's reword your question a little and see how it plays out, OK?

"I want simple box that I can connect to an FM antenna that will give me the left and right audio outputs that I can connect to an amplifier, but I DON'T want a tuner. It should also know which station I want to listen to, but again, I DON'T want a tuner."

Got the picture?

So, now you'll run it through an RF Modulator to convert it back to RF again?

RatShack sold these, not DEmodulators, mainly for use with video games to convert their audio and composite video outputs to RF so TV's without these inputs could input the signal via antenna/cable connector. They still do but nowadays everyone else does as well.

Virtually every VCR on the market has these built in.

Like I said on the other forum, a Hi-Fi VCR is exactly what you need.

Well, Radio Shack called what I was thinking of a "demodulator," so I went with that. All anyone seems to have now is an RF Modulator, which takes audio/composite video and/or audio/S-video as an input and outputs to audio/composite or audio/S or coax. Of course Radio Shack also sold me the box I threw away last year, even though he claimed they "never made those."

What I'm looking for is a box that gives me coax (cable signal) in, with outputs for stereo audio, composite video and coax, all of them live. My old Radio Shack box also had an S-video out in the mix.

As mentioned in my original post, I *do* realize that I would have to use the coaxial out to plug into the TV so that I could use the TV's tuner, then keep the TV on mute and pass the sound into my stereo receiver. Just tryin' to get better sound to go with the cheapo TV in my home office There literally is not space for a VCR, which I know would accomplish this.

So ... it looks like this kind of device is not in the cards -- and the TV sound in my office will be tinny ...

Well, good luck in your search.

Having worked for the Shak on and off part time since the 70's while going to school, I can't say that I've ever heard of a "Demodulator" either. We've always called things that do what you describe as "tuners"

There are many other sites as well and I promise to not respond on them should you continue your search. I do ask, however, that if you do locate this device that you get back to us and share your knowledge and where to get one. I'm curious about it.

You would definitely need something like a tuner. Or, the demodulator would have to be tuned to a specific channel (like 3) for specific demodulation. Which, would make it useless if you need it to pull off different channels.

How about a different approach that may work?

If your TV has a headphone jack, which many small TVs have, then you can use that and take that straight out of the TV to the audio system. This is something that I have worked with in the past when we have wanted to feed the audio from a small TV to overhead speakers within a kitchen or bathroom environment. It works well, and typically when headphones are connected to the TV, then speakers in the TV automatically go off. So, you don't have to turn the volume down or anything.

Otherwise - I would say that the unwanted VCR is the best option. Or a small cable tuner which you can pick up all over and can be pretty small.

Commercial demods are pretty expensive, and even the "industrial" units like this aren't cheap ($200):

As already mentioned, a VCR or Cable STB with L/R audio out would be the most economical solution.

I have one at home that I had bought at radioshack at one time, they did sell them however I can not find any on there web site. They were cheap as well, maybe 20 dollars.
