My SXRD experience has caused me to cross off Sony as TV vendor.
Could you provide more information? What was your SXRD experience that has turned you sour on Sony?

There is no doubt that Sony - love them or hate them - has and will continue to shape the home entertainment industry. I've read posts in this thread in regards to gaming and the influence Sony is having on protecting the software. (and perhaps going overboard)

I have no experience in the gaming side of the equation - but I do have a Sony ES reciever as well as a Sony rear projector tv and a 32" CRT flat Wega Flat screen. Frankly - all of these products have performed flawlessly (some for several years) The DVD player I have has worked perfectly for a long time too....

So.. it would seem to me that Sony - not so unlike other companies makes some outstanding products - and not unlike other companies also - has some real lemons out there. - I think you get what you pay for......

The green blob

Also very rapid (like 1 hr) color banding in cable news channels crawl area

Both inexcusable in a set this expensive, and both (oft reported) problems show Sony did insufficient product testing

I don't really want to keep this thread alive, but I will throw in my two pennies.

1) I don't like the root kit that occured, but I think they learned from that.
2) Their itty bitty vaio VGN-tx750p is the best laptop I've ever owned... and that's saying a lot when coming from my history with computers.
3) The Wega tv sitting in my living room is still one of the nicest pictures I've seen in it's size range.

I also use their 300 disk CD carousel and a Sony Cd/MP3 player in my car. Both of which have given flawless performance since the date of purchase.

I will say I have had some problems with other prodects by them in the past, but all companies have their good and bad points. For me, their good outweighs their bad... and I'd like to keep them around.

Sony is not that bad. I have their 23 # LCD TV with DCDi upconversion, and its the best picture quality you can get for the price $250. As everyone said, Sony Audio equipment is mid range at best. To an average Joe their all in one stereos, HT in a box are great and not that overpriced (4 speakers and sub for under $500). Obiously if you are an Audioholic you would not even concider buying AV stuff from sony. That does not mean you hate them, youre just more aware that there is better stuff out there if youre serious about AV.
