Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

Not to sound insulting (as I'm not trying to be), but I have to ask - have you tried plugging the blu-ray into one of the hubs that is working for your other equipment? I'd like to eliminate the hub as being the issue.

Thanks.

yes i have i also hooked it up bye taking the hub totally out of the picture and still cant find internet, the player in a nutshell wants me to manually add isp address as well as gateway and some other things im not familiar with, im at work now but get off in a couple of hours and can give you all that information if it will help, i am not a computer geek i know how to turn one on, surf the net, and play warcraft so all the things it wants i have no clue where to find, i would think the blu ray would be like all the rest of my equipment and find the internet info on its own???

I'm downloading the manual to see if I can help you. That'll take a bit, as I'm watching some TV right now. :) Should be before you leave work, though. Maybe someone else will chime in with the answers first.

Work on a Friday? Psshhh. :D

The internet settings are on page 50 of the owner's manual. Here's my recommendation based on my assumption that your internet connection at home is like many:

Under "IP Address Acquisition", select "Use DHCP". Keep (or set) "DNS Server Auto Acquisition" at "On". Leave the proxy stuff alone (unless you know that you have a proxy server) and follow the rest of the instructions.

Give that a try (unless someone here has a better idea) and let us know how that works out. Thanks!

Did you add the required 1 Gig or more of flash memory to the player? I read somewhere that the network connection on this player will not work without it.

well i think i got a lemon, i tried to hook up the hdmi from the blu ray to the kenwood reciever and i get no picture or audio, but when i hook up the hdmi directly to the tv with a hdmi to dvi adapter i get picture, at first i thought it was my reciever but the hdmi cable from my dvr passes through the reciever like it should???? only thing i can think is maybe it has something to do with the dvi adapter. either way ive only had this blu ray player for a week and called sony support today with my problems which was a complete waste of time, they say its my internet provider i say bs! everything else i own works just fine except the blu ray so im gonna box it up and return it it to walmart, anyone have any suggestions for 2.0 profile blu ray they would recommend in the $350.00 price range to replace this door stop with?

I'm not trying to stop you from returning it, but we might just be able to get this to work for you. You just mentioned a Kenwood receiver, but I thought that you were using a Yamaha RX-V663 (stated in your first post). Let me know which it is, and we can figure out why you aren't getting audio or video over HDMI.

Regarding the internet connection, your hub (I'm guessing it's a router) may very well be providing a static IP address to your blu-ray player. If so, that would explain why it doesn't work when you tell it that you have a dynamic IP address. I'm no guru on figuring out the static IP address from a router that isn't my own, but I have some ideas. If you a computer that you can plug into that port (desktop or laptop) that is running Windows, then we can get that IP address no problem. Just let me know.

ok as far internet setup and how it works this is gonna be a long explanation but bare with me, ok my cable comes into the house in my office, into a modem out of the modem into a linksys wireless router, out wireless router into desktop computer running xp, also out of the back of linksys i have a belkin internet (dont know what you would call it) but what it does is you plug this adapter into the wall and plug a either net cabe into it and you plug another adapter into the wall where you need internet, the other adapter is in my living room and out of that adapter the internet goes into a 4 port hub which feeds my dish network dvr, xbox, and bluray player does that make sense?

...does that make sense?
Yeah, I think so.

Before we go to the next step, I'll explain how to find the IP address. On your desktop computer, open up a command shell. I don't have XP in front of me, but you go to the Start menu, there should be something that says "Run" or similar, click that and type "cmd" into the box, and hit enter. A new box will pop up that is a command shell. Type "ipconfig" in that box and hit enter. It will show you some information.

Let me know once you can do that.

Well, it might or might not work just from that.

The IP address that you want is the one that the Belkin system is using because that is what your blu-ray is connected to. So, temporarily disconnect the Belkin from the router and connect your desktop computer to the jack on the router that you are using for the Belkin - then do the "ipconfig" again. At least one of the numbers will be different - at least, I sure think it will be. The values from that are what the blu-ray sees.

After you do that, put the desktop cable back in its original jack on the router, and do the same for the Belkin.

ok i typed in the info and still nothing, by the way i tried to connect this thing by bypassing both routers and doing a direct connect also to no avail

i tried that and info is the same, there has to be something wrong with this bluray, nothing should be this difficult

Can anyone else help with this? I've never set up one of those blu-ray players, but I'll bet that it's just an issue of getting it set up right.

Again, though, dwhilljr - I'm not trying to stop you from returning it. I'm just wondering if the next player is going to cause similar problems, and that you might as well figure out the necessary info right now. You could be right - it might be defective, or maybe a player from another manufacturer would be easier to set up.

EDIT: As for getting picture/sound through the receiver, did you assign the HDMI inputs to the source input that you are using?

Also - I'm really surprised that the IP address was the same for both the desktop and the Belkin. I would think that the ports on the back of the router would have different addresses assigned to them under the "IPv4 Address". Perhaps the computer was recognized and given the same address as before - that's entering the zone of stuff that I once knew but can't remember.

Sorry that I can't solve that for you here.
