Hi folks, newbie to the forum and the hobby here, hoping someone can help me.
I am getting single, short bassy thumps from my subwoofer when:
- I pause films or songs on my TV
- when I hit play again
- when I switch audio settings on my receiver e.g. 'Enhancer' or 'Straight'
The thumps happen *often* in the aforementioned scenarios, but not every single time.
These thumps, however, do occur with 100% certainty when the audio drops out on the Disney+ app (apparently drop outs are a common and frustrating issue for Disney+ users). Oftentimes, when I start a movie or a show on Disney+, the audio will cut out twice in the first few seconds before stabilising, and the woofer will thump both times.
The sound on the woofer is fantastic otherwise, I just live in anticipation of the next of those jarring, obnoxious thumps. It rather ruins my viewing and listening experience.
I do not recall this being as much of an issue (or an issue at all) a few months ago when the TV was hooked up to the receiver via a simple aux cord. If memory serves, the thumping began around the time I switched to an HDMI ARC connection. Is that a possible cause, or is it far more likely just a coincidence? i.e. did I just so happen to switch from aux cable to HDMI around the time a component in the receiver or woofer failed of its own accord.
I do not currently have access to another receiver or another woofer to figure out where the problem lies via process of elimination. I'm just hoping this is a problem someone else here has encountered before and is able to diagnose from my description.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My setup:
- SONAB CSW subwoofer (wired connection)
- 2x Dali Spektor bookshelf speakers
- Yamaha RX-V577 receiver
- LG OLED CX television (connected to receiver via HDMI ARC)
I have replaced the power cable for the woofer as it looked a bit knackered. No change. Replacing the audio cable looks to be a pain as it is RCA to phoenix. I have included a photo of what the connection looks like. I bought this woofer secondhand so this is not my work. As a noob to all this, I have no idea whether this looks like a solid job or a total mess.

Thanks in advance.
