Haven't heard anything besides my really bad samsung htib with 2" drivers and 3/4" tweeter :)

I'm going to the local Magnolia to listen to a few options. The main one I am concerned with is the horn from Klipsch.

Yeah, Klipsch is usually love it or hate it and depends on the environment too. If you have a "live" environment (hard floors, leather furniture, etc...), horns probably aren't a great choice. Great dispersion and high sensitivity, but they do tend to be on the bright side, so we'll know after you've heard them :) Listen to something with a soft dome tweeter in addition to the Klipsch, as that's what the P4s and HTMs both have. The tweeter on the Pioneer BS22 is smooth and what I'd use to gauge against the Klipsch, though the listening environment where Best Buy typically has them setup is typically less than ideal.

Bring your own CDs in case they have a system that will let you use it (Magnolia side should).

I'd recommend browsing this thread too: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/loudspeakers/84583-top-5-fewer-sounds-you-listen-when-evaluating-speakers-specific.html

If I went the P4 route, what would I use as the center? It looks like they only come in pairs.

That would be a drawback. I'd call them and see if they'll sell a single one, because it is entirely possible. Another thought would be to do a 6.1 setup with one for each front and rear center.

Tricky, because budgets are budgets, but, if you save up and get great speakers, they last you a really long time and end up saving you money (trying a bunch of budget ones ends up costing more than just buying the right one once)....
I very much agree with this. If there will EVER be more money for upgrades, I would go with fewer speakers now and get quality instead of getting a complete set. I would look for a pair of speakers for the whole $700 budget, and wait for the rest until I had the money for it. I personally would much rather have a good two channel system than a marginal surround system. Others, of course, may disagree, but if you buy a set of speakers and then replace them all later, that will cost you more money in the long run than buying good speakers that you can possibly keep for your entire life.

That's great advice. Once you listen to a well put together 2 or 2.1 system, and hear what it can be, I'm sure you'll be pleased. I would make it a priority that you get a pair of speakers that you can later match a center with. Happy shopping.

My issue is size and the ability to mount against a wall, sealed or front ported. I just can't seem to find any small enough to mount. What's the largest yall will go mounting on wall?

You can mount some pretty big stuff. My buddy wall mounted JBL S38s :)
