Sin city is absolutely amazing.

I personally loved it

I agree with privateer, this move ruled. Up there with team america and baseketball.

Never saw it in theater, but at home it was good. Lots of bass, good use of surrounds. Most of these movies it's all mains, but they used the surrounds alot in this one.

I (stupidly) never checked for DTS, so I watched it in dolby (I rented the movie). The reason the acting seems funny, or weird, is becasue they are portaying a comic, and the lines for the comic at not written like movie lines. I thought this was a good touch to bring the comic book sense into the movie.

Oddly enough, I just finished watching it last week on DVD.

There are probably only two scenes in the whole movie that I considered too gory for me, otherwise I enjoyed. I also found it pretty hard to follow but it's probably due to the fact that I haven't read the comic book so I don't know what the style/format was like.

Out of the characters, I enjoyed Marv the most. This is probably the only character that I enjoyed Mickey Rourke play. Even Bruce Willis wasn't too bad IMO.

Over the top dialogue had me thinking about those old gangster movies I used to see on TV as reruns on Sunday afternoon tv when I was a kid. I times I found it funny (Sin City) other times I found it obnoxious.

For Picture Quality and visual effects definitely worth collecting if the story is your cup a tea...

I think the movie is amazing, I love the fact that they based it straight from the comics and didn't "tone it down" for the masses that would see it in the theater. The cinematography is rediculous. It's def. in my top five of all time favorites.

I could agree except for one thing. I did not enjoy this movie. (yes, yes...the first step is admitting you have a problem)

The camera work/CGI was beautiful, and the audio was great. I liked how they tried to give the feel of it being an onscreen comic book. That part was very original. But for my tastes, the story didn't flow well, the acting felt wooden, and it seemed to be relying to heavily on its gimmicks and gore.

I just don't think I could bring myself to watch it again even as pure reference material.
I agree Gellor, Robert and Quentin go too far in this one. Made me feel like I needed a shower.

I think "gimmicks" is being confused with style here.

After watching the movie I thought I needed a shower too, with Jessica Alba. :D

If you want to see a great Robert Rodriguez movie, check out El Mariachi... He made that on $3000 using one camera and free extras in a small Mexican village... pure genius.

Then he hooked up with Quentin Terantino and the two of them have done nothing but tried to find the most gross ways of severing body parts on film... What a waste, though I must admit that the last scene in El Mariachi has me wondering who corrupted who...

Whats wrong with a movie being realistic?

Although exsessive, I personally like having my movies with gore, and real death, I'm also 18 :p .

If you didn't like the gore, thats fine, but you shouldn't start protesting it like it's going to harm or kill someone. Okay maybe no one took it that far. Just relax and concentrate on the good parts, mainly the huge female cast in the movie. :D

That says more about your crappy taste in comedy and movies than it does about Sin City. ;)

Robby,Robby, Robby. This type of personal rancor is hardly what one expects from a “Moderator”. If you keep this behavior up my little friend, I‘m afraid I will have to throw a negative chicklet your way. No wink, no smiley face.

How much of this movie is B&W? It seems that virtually every preview I've seen of it is B&W. Is this primarily specific scenes, as used in the previews? Or is this entire film mainly B&W?

Thank you. I'll remove this from my Netflix Que. Regardless of how good it may be, I despise B&W feature length films.

There are colors often in the movie to highlight and symbolilze things. It has very virbrant reds, blues, and yellows signifing different things. Bright red for a hero's car, deep blue for a woman's eyes that could stop an army, mustard yellow to symbolize an evil killer. Also the B&W aspects of the movie is not like a regular B&W movie. There are many shades of black and white thoughout. It will give a tough challenge to your DVD and video screen to diplay everything correctly. If you saw it you would agree that B&W was the best choice.

So you are going to pre judge a movie that you have not seen? It is not black and white but since you pre judge everything I doubt you have read any of frank millers works.
