Should I upgrade my Samsung HW-Q850D to the HW-Q990D

I bought a Samsung HW-Q850D 5 months ago. Is it worth the upgrade to the HW-Q990D. It will be paired with my brand-new Samsung 65''OLED S95D TV, and Playstation 5 Pro. My living room is 12'x16'. The HW-Q9900D is now only $250 more than I paid for the HW-Q850D. I wish I knew this ahead of time.

I'd think more about a better general upgrade, like moving beyond soundbars. I'd just keep the one you have until you can do a better overall hardware upgrade, they don't appear to have very significant differences.

I may do that. The living room is actually my secondary space. My nephews mostly play PlayStation there and occasionally we watch movies. My bedroom is where I play/watch. There, I have a Sony 7.1 receiver Atmos shelf speakers plus ceiling speakers. That setup sounds great for me.

Curious, what do you expect to gain particularly from the change you propose?

I just thought it would be a better overall system. I guess I just like the best. I've reading that the Q990D sounds great. I probably sound Silly.

It may be somewhat better, but not in significant ways to justify the cost of changing IMO. The best is definitely not a soundbar. Subjective reviews, meh. You don't sound silly at all, questioning is far smarter than just accepting "reviews" without specific reasons.

Thanks. I have always wonder if soundbars were better than receiver/speakers setups. Soundbars are very popular these days. Thanks for your help and advice. I've got to get some sleep.

No, I consider soundbars very inferior to better component setups. The speakers included with soundbars are extremely limited....and most of the sound is speakers and their location in your room....having 5 of them or more in a bar is silly.

1. undersized speakers deliver inadequate sound quality.
2. No left to right movement or spacing for the front speakers.
3. Soundwaves bouncing around the room gimmick. I tried a 5.1 virtual soundbar which predates atmos and 4k and it didn't deliver the surround sound effect. Atmos with upfiring speakers would be the same.
4. Limited or no hdmi inputs and outputs.
5. No ability to replace or upgrade parts or components as this comes as a complete system. If you have issues with any component, the whole thing would be returned/replaced.

you could make a thread asking that although it’s been debated Before a lot.
No just most people don’t or won’t care to learn how to set up a 5.1 system or don’t want to spend that much. Lots of people these days just use tv speakers.

They have become very popular indeed. But not because of performance. The main thing they have going for them is simplicity. They are an upgrade to almost any tv speakers, but are not able to recreate a real cinematic experience the same way a component set can. The downside of component sets for many(not many if any here lol)is the added complexity and running of cables, and more involved setup procedure.

That would be a lateral move, replacing one POS with another. The whole concept of a soundbar makes no sense whatsoever from an engineering standpoint. I regard as basically a commonly practiced fraud.

I’d be worried if the amp bricks it’s just trash…. It’s the new htib.
Yeah some of them are really expensive!!!

The point here is you move away from soundbars.
I don't know why people bother posting only to be dismissive and fail to take action.
